This position is responsible for performing accurate quality controlled diagnostic testing, analyzing and recording results, and calibrating and maintaining the equipment used. In addition, the MT position performs high level quality control and monitoring of diagnostic tests; develops clinical technical procedures; utilizes multiple laboratory databases.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

· Performs nucleic acid testing per procedure manual.

· Performs proficiency testing and performs quality assurance as required in accordance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

· Participates in inspection preparations.

· Develops and revises technical procedures for approval as required.

· Maintains technical worksheets for daily workflow across molecular shifts.

· Utilizes multiple laboratory databases.

· Validates Laboratory Developed Tests.

· Routine Clinical and Microbiology testing

Supervisor Duties:

No supervisory duties.

Job Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of appropriate handling of biohazardous materials.

· Knowledge of standard operating procedures and awareness of their impact on patient care/management.

· Computer Skills: Must possess intermediate computer skill in Microsoft Word, Excel and laboratory databases.

· Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written communications.

· Interpersonal Skills: Skill in working with all levels of the organization.

· Leadership Skills: Represents molecular laboratory in various company-wide initiatives in a professional manner.

· Ability to work independently or in small or large groups settings.

· Ability to effectively identify and communicate to solve problems and issues.

· Ability to handle stressful pressure situations and meet required deadlines.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality in order to protect patient/client privacy and proprietary company information.

· Ability to maintain mental and physical focus required to perform tasks to required standards (quantity and quality).

· Ability to readily learn new techniques and methods.

· Ability to develop technical procedures and daily worksheets.


· Medical Technologist (MT) or equivalent and 1-2 years of previous experience with clinical molecular or clinical lab testing preferred.

· Molecular experience is preferred but not required.

· Tennessee Licensure or ability to apply.

· ASCP certified or equivalent

Work Environment:

· Normal Laboratory work environment.

· Employees in this position will receive safety training on Large Quantity Generator of Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan Implementation as it pertains to Emergency Evacuation Routes, Communication, and Alarms.

  • Perform any laboratory maintenance duties
  • Participate in internal laboratory safety inspections
  • Preparing laboratory for work day
  • Understand all laboratory policies and procedures
  • Perform various laboratory testing procedures in assigned areas
  • Clean, and calibrate laboratory equipment
  • Collect blood and test blood samples used for pre-transfusion testing
  • Participate in the development of laboratory procedures
  • Participate in continuing education and attend meetings
  • Assist in other laboratory areas
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
  • Utilize technical skills and abilities to perform laboratory testing
  • Perform quality control on laboratory results, data and reports
  • Adhere to laboratory's safety policies
  • Performing quality control and quality assurance associated with laboratory procedures
  • Resolve non-conformances in the laboratory
  • Maintain a safe and clean laboratory
  • Keeping detailed laboratory records and files
  • Keeping detailed laboratory records and files
  • Assist the laboratory team with various projects or special tasks as needed such as building and/or adapting laboratory setup and test equipment for laboratory tests, examining test samples
