Nurse Manager, Emergency Department

This position will provide clinical leadership and manages the daily operations of a 35-bed, 55,000 visits per year Emergency Department to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives.  The manager will foster an environment of accountability and commitment to quality and safety standards over 85 FTE’s, with various shifts, as well as delivering exceptional customer service to patients and families. Key responsibilities include managing staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, and conflict management. Performs and oversees scheduling, recruitment, and payroll.  Monitors departmental budgets, regulatory compliance, departmental contracts, and vendor relations. Determines and justifies needs for systems/equipment/supplies purchases, monitors usage, and oversees proper working order and/or stock supplies. 

This position requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Must have demonstrated effectiveness in sharing information and consistently communicates the vision, purpose and direction of the organization. Provides constructive and positive feedback to peers, direct reports, and colleagues.

Demonstrates the value of diversity through interviewing, hiring and retention activities. Selects the right people with the right skills for the right jobs with a demonstrated impact on retention and an appropriate sense of urgency meeting organizational and department turnover goals. Creates strategies and action to sustain an environment that promotes change and consistently recognizes employee contribution and superior performance as evidenced in employee satisfaction scores and performance appraisal ratings.




  • Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • PALS Certification
  • Specialty Certification in Emergency/Trauma nursing


  • Bachelor’s in Nursing, master’s degree in nursing or related field preferred,
  • Required licensure/certification: State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider. 
  • Minimum Experience: 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success in HCAPS/Service Excellence programs
  • Experience with acute stabilization for behavioral health patients
  • Experience working in a split-flow model preferred
