Technical Designer

We are an apparel manufacturing company looking for a full-time Technical Designer. As a Technical Designer, you will facilitate the transition of apparel from design concept to the first sample, through to the final, production-ready confirmation sample. You will be responsible for reviewing samples with the design team and cross-functional team members by ensuring the spec and function of the piece are appropriately executed to achieve the desired design aesthetic. Technical Designer should be able to flag potential production and quality issues and bring solutions to the table. Expertise in pattern-making including grading, construction and fit, in-depth knowledge of construction standards and manufacturing methods.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Develop activewear and sportswear styles from concept to production
  • Create technical illustrations and designs
  • Create and compile concepts and tech packages for seasonal product development
  • Develop and manage the technical specification packages for apparel prototypes
  • Lead fit sessions with models, evaluate the garment for quality and fit, make recommendations for pattern improvements and communicate with the factories regarding changes and approvals of fit samples 
  • Assist and consult with factory pattern makers to develop new blocks 
  • Maintain documentation of all relevant data for production
  • Measure and evaluate all garments to ensure they align with product specifications for size and fit consistency within the brands
  • Effectively communicate designs fit intent to vendors for bulk production while maintaining corporate standards
  • Strive for continual improvement that drives product and process enhancements
  • Create product measurement charts and specifications
  • Monitor on-time delivery of development samples
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere that strengthens the team
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

WHO YOU ARE:

  • At least 5 years of experience in ladies activewear and sportswear
  • Have a thorough understanding of technical packages
  • Strong understanding of grading, pattern-making and garment construction
  • Fluent in MS Office and Adobe Illustrator. PLM experience a plus
  • Must be highly adaptable, extremely organized and an exceptional communicator
  • A fast thinker with the ability to effectively support multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Open to receiving direction and feedback from multiple sources
