What is an Industrial Sales Representative?
To live in the Power Generation industry, you are a person who is assertive, an extrovert, have an impatient and driving personality. You thrive in Technical Sales because you love to provide concrete solutions to your customer’s complex needs.
You pride yourself on being a developer, “go to” person a customer can count on. That’s the type of person you would want to help you with your important business decisions. You have a good sense of humor and customers enjoy your company. Accountability doesn’t scare you because it gives you a chance to talk about your accomplishments.
You are smart, very smart. You have to be because you are working with Electrical, Design and Consulting Engineers, Electrical and General Contractors, Commercial and Industrial End Users (i.e., Mission Critical Data Centers, Health Care Facilities, and Manufacturing).
You are intuitive . You can “smell” when to close the sale but you have also worked diligently to have the right to ask.
In this position for our company, you work closely with Electrical Contractors in the design phase and throughout the life of the projects of standby power solutions, specifications and purchase decisions. You are selling new Commercial/Industrial Standby Generators, Automatic Transfer Switches and Electrical Switchgear.
BS/BA degrees are great especially when it involves related studies such as engineering, mechanical, electrical, etc. However, we put a lot of value on industry experience because you’ve been there, done it and can talk about it. You have a good idea of what to expect in technical sales, what is expected of you, and you have a game plan in place on how to deliver it.

What doesn’t come through as a benefit but should be considered is that we have awesome people at our company. We have an inside sales support team to help with your sales effort. We have Sales Engineers that are a part of your team. You’ve got back up.
We provide ongoing training at our Corporate facility in MD as well as at the manufacturer's facility we represent.
How about the territory? Do you know how much business is in the DC Metropolitan area? I suspect you do.
- Maintain sales area records on customer sales
- Drive outside sales within territory
- Prepare periodic sales report showing sales volume and potential sales
- Lead all sales within territory
- Develop a territory sales plan
- Utilizing sales system to optimize sales calls
- Provide weekly sales updates to sales management
- Develop and maintain sales forecasts on anticipated territory sales
- Coordinate sales calls and associated paper work with inside sales/sales support
- Exerting sales effort necessary to meet sales quota
- Achieve and exceed territory sales goals
- Meet or exceed sales call activity goals for new sales
- Conduct sales presentations to customers
- Succeed in company sponsored training classes
