Job Description/Title: Design & Costing/Engineer

Investigate and procures all data required to prepare a quotation on a new or existing product or components. The engineer will prepare preliminary sketches and schematics diagrams to demonstrate tool function, and ability to estimate tool costs, material costs and labor cost to produce a quoted price for the job. At the time a order is issues by the customer this preliminary data will be used to design tools, set up machines, and put new job into production.
Reports to Manager ofEngineering, keeps a close working contact with manufacturing, purchasing to assure the job meets on-time delivery, QA requirements, and cost meet quoted numbers.
Require a BSME, Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing engineering, with training using auto cad 2-d & 3-d, and most important wanting to get and strive for positive results.
·Makes sketches or completes detail and layout drawings from verbal or written instructions on the most complex machines.
·Works independently on the development of original designs or adaptations.
·May aid in training less experienced designers.
·Works closely with other engineering areas to resolve technical problems, analyze design concepts as to feasibility of manufacturing and costs.
·Recommends technical and design changes as may be applicable for improvement to design, quality, operating performance and reliability.
·Coordinates with Purchasing and Manufacturing Engineering on the procurement of necessary material and components to complete a project.
·Acts as project manager of his other projects, in the coordination with vendor.
Candidates for this position should be detail-oriented and willing to learn. Machine Operators should be able to follow instructions, work with others, and help ensure that all safety regulations are followed.
New products development:
·Design support to the customer and the Sales/Product Manager to best meet product needs and fit into cost effect manufacturing processes.
·Development of Bill of Materials.
·Development of routing for current or standard type products as well as working with Tech. Group for new process developments.
·Research materials and suppliers to best match the needs of the customer.
·Development of the equipment listing, plant flow and process layout.
·Coordination of customers requirement to engineering for development of tooling, equipment costing requirements of job.
·Support Q.C. In the development of FPA sampling.
·Support new part start up team in the start up procedures and debug of production.
·Product design/tool estimates/plant layouts will be developed on Auto Cadd tools.
·Review present and new installations for best practice ergonomics conditions, provide improvements.
·Match products to existing processes for best use of present capital equipment.
·Provide optional drafts and optional methods to best meet cost objectives and existing processes.
·Review plant capacity restraints when quotation of new large orders. Maintain present capacity limits.
·Development and management of the product costing module. Responsible for the building and updating bills of material, work centers and routings, and all associated cst through the use of the company Software system.
·All BOM work and routings will be built and maintained in the company Software system.
·Development of the production standards. Provide information data and actual vs standard costs. Basic labor standard supplied to system through production.
·Manage the ECN (engineering change notice) System and see that proper documentation and follow through is complete.
·Develop new out sourced vendors for various wire forms which do not fit present job planned capital investments.
·Development of company policy and procedures for BOM, work centers and routings, ECN, product development, materials standards and steel suppliers, wire form outsourcing standards and other appropriate engineering policies.
·The development of work instructions is a part of the function of this job, to assure that how to do the job is documented to provide knowledge base within the company, it is very important to protect the interests of the company with documented work instructions, for other engineers, machine operators, quality personal, etc.
Project Engineer may have project supervision of his/her direct projects plus 1 or 2 other projects.
PROJECT LEVEL SUPERVISION INDEPENDENT AUTHORITY:
Project or Design Engineer has complete project level responsibilities. Project Engineer has the authority to create, make change design to best fit application and reduce cost, and final testing and trouble shooting of machines. Project Leader Engineer has authority to make necessary changes to produce results.
·Machine and equipment design for cost improvement programs.
·Tool and product development for the purpose of reducing cost and improving quality.
·Floor support for test run, debug when required.
