Job Title: Registered Nurse - Obstetrics Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3x12 D/N rotation Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Registered Nurse - State Nursing Board or Compact State Agreement Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), S.T.A.B.L.E. Must-Have: Current nursing license and required certifications prior to start date Description: The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols. The nurse maintains the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The nurse facilitates the coordination of patient care within the interdisciplinary care team and provides patient education to ensure safe discharge. Performs daily rounds on all patients, ensuring quality service by coordinating and taking action on unmet requirements. Develops a plan of care based on assessment that reflects the patient's physical, psychological, social, educational, and rehabilitative needs. Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs, sets goals, and prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals. Assesses, intervenes, and reassesses the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly and takes appropriate action. Identifies early warning signs of a change in a patient's condition and responds appropriately to deterioration. Assists with or initiates emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patient conditions. Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate multidisciplinary team member. Ensures interventions or referrals are made promptly. Completes and submits all incident reports prior to the completion of each shift. Establishes and maintains communication, utilizing educational opportunities with patients and significant individuals. Begins discharge planning early, providing appropriate education and counseling based on identified needs. Evaluates and documents according to standard operating procedure. Assigns or delegates responsibility for performance of nursing interventions to others with the necessary skills. Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the department's and organization's requirements.
