Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Urgent Care Duration: Full Time Shift: Varies Hours per Shift: 40 hours a week rotating days and weekends Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year in an ambulatory or urgent care setting License: Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or another U.S. state Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred Must-Have: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and qualified to take the NCLEX. Clinical competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years. High-risk competency required within 3 months of hire and every year. Description: This position functions within the urgent care setting providing appropriate and timely nursing care for patients of all ages. The role promotes quality, evidence-based, and cost-effective health care outcomes. As a member of a nursing team, the RN will perform full assessments and prioritize patient needs. Skills include coordinating care as ordered by providers and using critical thinking to expedite care and patient services. The RN may work in other nursing roles to ensure departmental functions are covered. Duties must be performed in a responsible, professional, and compassionate manner to provide excellent patient care. Essential functions include initial triage and assessment of patients presenting for urgent care services. The RN may also provide telephone services with assessments and advice for self-care or appropriate care options. Assessment will include history of present illness, vital sign measurements, and immunization status, among others. The RN will administer therapeutic measures, including medications and operation of specialized equipment. Initiating IV access, maintaining sites, monitoring patients, and documenting assessments are also key responsibilities. Maintaining a clean and safe working environment, including adequate supplies, is essential. Adherence to infection control policies and procedures is required. The RN will track patient referrals and report on outstanding referrals to providers. Proactively identifying delays and obstacles to care is an important part of the role. Collaboration with team members across departments is necessary to foster a supportive environment. Participation in department improvement efforts and clinical team development is expected. The RN may also serve as a vaccine coordinator. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, lifting or moving up to 50 lbs, and navigating various work settings. Communication with all members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team is essential. The ability to remain calm, professional, and focused during stressful situations is critical.
