Insight Global is seeking a Principal Engineer/Software Architect to join a critical product development effort with one of our Big 4 clients. This individual will serve a key role in architecting, designing and developing cloud native software products that will have a huge public impact as part of a behavioral health transformation effort being led by the state of California. The ideal candidate will have a background in cloud native development to build scalable full stack applications.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Be a principal contributor in both system/solution architecture, as well as the product development through each phase of the software development lifecycle
-Define and document the overall system architecture, including frontend, backend, and cloud infrastructure.
-Design scalable and maintainable solutions using Node.js for backend services and React/Next.js for frontend.
-Ensure modularity, reusability, and performance optimization across the codebase.
-Select appropriate design patterns and architectural styles (e.g., microservices, serverless, monolith).
-Plan for horizontal and vertical scaling of services.
-Optimize frontend performance (e.g., lazy loading, SSR with Next.js).
-Design efficient APIs and data models for high throughput and low latency.
-Take proof of concept/prototype products and scale them up using the same toolset (nodeJS/React/AWS). Leverage react framework to design and develop modern functional front-end frameworks
-Consult and advise on best practices around development of modern tools and environments
-Periodic fully-expensed travel to Sacramento for on-site meetings and events (2-4x per year)
Target Salary: $152,500 - $228,400

Skills and Requirements
7+ years of experience as a Senior Engineer and/or Solution Architect using modern, web development tools, techniques, and methods for the creation and deployment of user-facing interfaces. Is comfortable working in an agile and lean environment to routinely deploy changes.
Strong hands on experience with backend NodeJS and/or NextJS
2+ years building scalable front-end web applications with React
2+ years of experience with open source RDMBS technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and designing efficient data models
Experience working with unit testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Mocha, Jasmine)
Experience using Git and version control tools like GitHub or BitBucket.
Experience working in a highly Agile environment with a deep understanding of Agile principles and methodologies.
Bachelor's degree in an IT-related or Engineering field, or relevant work experience on a year-to-year basis. -Demonstrated experience in building greenfield applications and products at scale
