The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the financial performance of construction projects, providing high‑level financial analysis and supporting strategic decision‑making. The Senior Project Accountant will also ensure that all contracts and agreements are executed in accordance with company policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements. This role involves monitoring, reviewing, and maintaining compliance with contract terms throughout their lifecycle to mitigate risk and ensure smooth business operations.Key ResponsibilitiesNew Project Set Up: (Budget and SOVs)/Ongoing maintenanceCollaborate and partner with project managers to influence decision‑making related to job costs, contract interpretation, and financial risk and develop a detailed and cost‑effective budget.Gather COI, Prelims, Bond requests, DCIP, CCIP (in conjunction with payables).Contracts: Manage Prime Contract Change Orders, Subcontractor agreements, Subcontractor Change Orders.Cost Analysis: Perform cost analysis and oversight of projects, including budgeting and cost tracking to ensure effective and profitable progress. Provide actionable recommendations to project managers and leadership.Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and monthly accrual entries for expenses.Assist with handling customer and vendor inquiries and researching and resolving customer issues and requests.Billing and Invoice Management: Prepare and process customer and subcontractor billing. Process customer invoices received from PMs with SOVs.Subcontractor Agreement Review: Assist in reviewing subcontractor agreements to ensure they align with company policies, legal requirements, and project‑specific terms and conditions. Identify and address any discrepancies or non‑compliant clauses.Compliance and Auditing: Track subcontractor performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations, including deliverables, timelines, payment schedules, and safety or regulatory requirements. Assist with internal and external audits and provide necessary documentation and reports.Document Management: Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of all subcontractor agreements, certifications, insurance documents, and compliance‑related paperwork. Ensure proper documentation is collected, stored, and readily accessible for audits or regulatory reviews.Collaborate Internally and Externally: Work closely with internal departments (project management, accounting) to ensure subcontractor contracts align with project needs and compliance standards. Develop and maintain strong customer relationships, handle customer collection inquiries and correspondence, and ensure timely responses. Process customer lien releases.Reporting and Tracking: Prepare and review monthly financial reports on subcontractor performance, compliance status, and risk assessments. Provide variance analysis and forecasting updates.Risk Identification: Assist in identifying potential risks or non‑compliance issues related to subcontractor performance, including safety violations, delays, or failure to meet contractual terms. Develop and implement financial controls and processes, and reporting improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to internal teams and subcontractors on compliance‑related topics, ensuring that subcontractors understand their obligations.Audit Support: Help coordinate internal audits or inspections related to subcontractor compliance, ensuring that all relevant subcontractors are included and that any non‑compliance issues are identified and addressed.Serve as a financial resource to project managers and leadership, providing guidance on financial implications.QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA or CPA a plus).Experience: Minimum of 4+ years in accounting, finance, or related field within the construction industry or other relevant sectors where subcontractors are used.Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data and influence business decisions.Skills:Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present financial information to stakeholders.Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
