Qualifications:

Has a Wisconsin special education teaching license (cross-categorical license or comparable) or is able to obtain one through a licensure program. Is knowledgeable about special education laws and procedures, including IEPs, evaluations, and inclusive co-teaching strategies. A team player who has excellent collaboration and communication skills with students, staff, and families.

Job Goal:

The Lake Geneva Joint #1 School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to lead our new special education setting at Eastview Elementary, serving students in 4th and 5th grade with Intellectual Disabilities, Other Health Impairment, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides parents and staff with instructional and behavioral strategies to support students' progress with IEPs in all educational settings. Ensuring the least restrictive, most appropriate educational program for all students.
  • Serves as a case manager and acts as a resource on the instructional practices and methodology of the most effective teaching of students with disabilities.
  • Writes IEPs that support students in meeting their goals, closes learning gaps, and participates in the general education classroom as much as possible
  • Demonstrates effective problem-solving and progress monitoring techniques related to designing and implementing child-specific instruction and intervention strategies
  • Monitors children's behavioral patterns and arranges appropriate interventions if needed
  • Collaborates with the related services staff (e.g., school counselors, psychologists, speech therapists, OTs, PT, and educational aides) to create support and intervention plans
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The employee has frequent contact with students and members of the community. While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to engage in conversations and is required to utilize communication skills, such as speaking and listening. The employee is required to sit, stand, and walk at regular intervals throughout the workday. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Essential functions require a high level of concentration and attention to detail.
