Job Title: Senior Accountant, Fixed Assets & CAPEX
Location: San Rafael, CA (Hybrid, 2 days/week Tuesday and Thursday)
Type: Contract
Compensation: $58-65/hour DOQ
Contractor Work Model: Hybrid (2 days/week onsite)
Hours: 8-5, M-F

Overview

Seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant with strong experience in Fixed Assets, CAPEX, and Procure-to-Pay (P2P) processes, including hands-on expertise with SAP Ariba.

This role requires a hands-on accounting professional with leadership experience, capable of managing complex financial processes while partnering cross-functionally across procurement, FP&A, and project teams.

Responsibilities

Fixed Asset Accounting & Reporting

  • Manage full lifecycle of fixed assets including additions, disposals, transfers, impairments, and depreciation
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset subledger with general ledger
  • Track and manage CAPEX projects and Asset Under Construction (AUC/CIP) balances
  • Ensure proper capitalization vs expense treatment in compliance with US GAAP
  • Support depreciation forecasting and CAPEX reporting for FP&A

Procure-to-Pay (P2P) & Ariba

  • Utilize SAP Ariba for procurement workflows, invoice processing, and vendor management
  • Review and manage purchase orders (POs), invoices, and approvals within Ariba
  • Ensure alignment between Ariba, ERP systems, and accounting records
  • Partner with procurement teams to improve P2P efficiency and controls

OPEX, Accruals & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and analyze OPEX accruals and expense recognition
  • Perform month-end close activities: journal entries, reconciliations, rollforwards, variance analysis
  • Monitor open POs and ensure accurate timing of expense recognition
  • Deliver variance analysis and reporting insights to FP&A and business stakeholders

Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Provide guidance and oversight to junior accounting staff or shared services teams
  • Partner with project managers, procurement, and finance teams on CAPEX and OPEX activities
  • Support process improvements and drive operational efficiencies

Controls, Compliance & Audit

  • Maintain strong internal controls and SOX compliance
  • Support internal and external audits related to fixed assets and procurement
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and system enhancements

Work Arrangement

Hybrid schedule preferred for local candidates (2 days onsite in San Rafael – Tuesday & Thursday).

Fully remote option available for highly qualified candidates who meet all key requirements, including:

  • Strong SAP Ariba experience
  • Proven management/leadership experience
  • Background in mid-to-large organizations

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years accounting experience, including fixed assets and CAPEX
  • Hands-on experience with SAP Ariba (MANDATORY)
  • Experience working in mid-to-large size organizations
  • Prior team leadership or management experience
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP (capitalization, depreciation)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Nice-to-Have

  • CPA or CPA-eligible
  • Experience in biotech, pharma, or manufacturing environments
  • Experience with SAP or major ERP systems
  • Background in procurement accounting / P2P processes
