The Position
Incumbent works under the direction of the Compliance Officer or designee, providing restorative nursing services to promote resident's ability to adapt to more independent living, based on applicable laws and Douglas County Health Center (DCHC) policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Assist patients/residents with activities of daily living (ADL's), personal hygiene and other related needs.
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
- Comply with Civil Service Rules, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
- Monitor patient/resident response to restorative nursing, informing nurse of resident progress, changes in condition or other issues.
- Ensure completed documentation (e.g., vital signs, ADL cares, restorative care, dietary intake).
- Encourage patient/resident participation in restorative programs.
- Provide patient/resident teaching and demonstration on the use of assistive devices.
- Maintain a sanitary and safe environment for patients/residents.
- Ensure availability of appropriate supplies and report any malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff.
- Adhere to infection control protocols (e.g., using gloves, protective clothing, hand washing) in interactions.
- Document and report any patient/resident issues (e.g., difficulty breathing, confusion, skin breakdown, irritation, bleeding) to supervisor.
- Report any suspicion/allegation of neglect/abuse to your supervisor
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) activities.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all department information based on applicable rules and policies.
- Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
- Perform other duties as directed and assigned.
Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant course required.
- One (1) year as a nursing assistant in a healthcare setting required.
- Basic life support/cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS/CPR) certification required within six (6) months of hire and maintained throughout employment required.
- Experience as a restorative aide in a skilled nursing or short-term rehabilitation facility preferred.
- Completion of a restorative aide course preferred.
- Experience in acute care, skilled rehabilitation, skilled nursing or long-term care preferred.
- Experience with Electronic Health records preferred.
- Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check, conditional offer drug screen, physical assessment and health review required.

- Work is generally performed in a healthcare environment. Noise level is usually moderate. Work hours are typically assigned shifts; however, schedule may vary (e.g., overtime/extra hours, weekends, holidays, emergency call-in). Work involves potential exposure to chemicals, fumes, and biohazards. Work may be fast-paced when dealing with time constraints, multiple/changing priorities, limited resources and uncooperative/irate individuals.
- Work requires some physical activity, including extended periods of standing, walking, frequent reaching, and occasional balancing, kneeling, bending, and sitting. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and to push/pull up to 50 pounds with a grip strength of 65 pounds.
- Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
