Position Summary:

Provides patient care under direction of Surgical Services and individual surgeon. The nursing care is devoted to intraoperative care serving as the first assistant to the surgeon during the surgical intervention. In the event that the services of the Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) are not required due to the lack of cases needing assistant, they may be assigned to function as a scrub or circulating nurse.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Adheres to standards of nursing practice of McLaren Greater Lansing (MGL), which consists of systematic approach to nursing practice by using nursing process.

  2. Develops perioperative plan of care.

  3. Demonstrates knowledge of judgment needed to meet the nursing needs appropriate to the age of the assigned patient.

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum of two-year operating room experience with proficiency in scrubbing and circulating duties.
  • Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant Certification (CNFA)
  • BLS certification as Healthcare Provider or equivalent through the Military Training Network (MTN).
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS certification with 6 months of hire.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing.
  • At least one RNFA Skills Workshop.
