Job Summary:

Position Title: Project Manager - 1
Location: Albany, NY, 12203
Duration: 3 years
Where the work will be performed: Remote
Location of Resource: Northeast Region
Is travel required for this position: Potential travel within NYS 2-3 times/yr


Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide project management and administrative support (work planning, progress tracking, note taking, meeting planning, etc.) for NYSERDA's Thermal Energy Networks (TENs) Roadmap, which will "holistically identify what is needed for TENs deployment in NYS including policy approaches, business models, workforce development, local enabling strategies, and incentives to motivate commercialization of TEN technologies. " (NYSERDA Innovation & Research Portfolio)
  • Identifying, assembling, organizing, and evaluating international TENs project data to develop a database and identify trends.
  • Support the NYSERDA Program Manager in developing and implementing TENs Roadmap stakeholder engagement strategy, which will primarily consist of coordinating internally across NYSERDA teams, with other state agencies, industry, and advocates. Tasks include: developing TENs content for stakeholder engagement efforts, scheduling and coordinating with attendees, documenting stakeholder outcomes, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Support the research for the TENs Roadmap by assisting the NYSERDA Program Manager with oversight of consultant research projects, ensuring that key individuals are included in important analytic decisions, and reviewing and proofreading research work products.
  • Perform copyediting for all stakeholder and public-facing materials in coordination with NYSERDA marketing and communications.
  • Other duties as assigned that contribute to the key outcomes of the Building Strategy and Planning Team.


To be considered for this position, you should have:

Required Skills
  • Proven project management skills, with experience executing complex projects informed by multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively manage change without impacting project timelines or core objectives.
  • Prior experience executing stakeholder engagement strategies with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and presentation development skills.
  • Ability to perform work independently and in teams. Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with a proactive and collaborative style. High levels of organization and attention to detail.
  • Experience in energy and building decarbonization.
  • Familiarity with and strong interest in Thermal Energy Networks (low-emission district heating/cooling) or related topics (e.g., community energy frameworks, building decarbonization policy and regulations, geothermal, waste heat reuse, local energy planning).

  • Carried out development of several projects through competitive solicitation phase that may or may not result from own initiative.

Education, Certifications, Degree requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in energy, environment, engineering or related field required. Advanced degree preferred.
