Position Overview
The Pricing Analyst plays a key role in supporting the profitability and competitiveness of our logistics and asset-based trucking operations. This position is responsible for analyzing historical cost data, market trends, and customer requirements to develop accurate and strategic pricing recommendations. Pricing Analyst will collaborate with Sales, Operations and/or Carrier Procurement to ensure our pricing aligns with network capacity, service capabilities, market conditions, and company profitability targets.
Location: Chicago, IL or open to 100% remote for the right individual
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Rate Development & Analysis
Analyze historical shipment data, cost structures, and lane-level profitability to develop contractual pricing.
Analyze market data, historical buy/sell trends, and lane volatility to build competitive and sustainable pricing proposals.
Use internal and external market data to benchmark rates and ensure competitiveness.
Calculate target and minimum rates based on network imbalances, desired margins, and operational feasibility
Bid & Quote Execution
Support the preparation and submission of customer RFPs, RFQs, and spot quotes in a timely manner.
Collaborate with sales to understand customer needs and tailor pricing strategies accordingly.
Ensure timely, accurate, and scalable pricing inputs into customer-facing tools and templates operational feasibility.
Carrier/Operational Alignment
Work closely with operations to ensure pricing recommendations align with available capacity, network optimization, and service capabilities.
Align pricing decisions with procurement strategies to ensure serviceability and profitability.
Identify risk areas tied to capacity constraints or high volatility lanes and adjust pricing accordingly
Customer Engagement
Partner with the sales team to support customer calls and meetings related to pricing discussions.
Help explain rate rationale, market conditions, and service value during bid reviews or pricing negotiations.
Assist in building customer confidence by providing timely, data-driven responses to pricing inquiries.
Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
Track pricing performance, win/loss trends, and margin realization on awarded freight.
Recommend pricing improvements based on post-bid analysis, margin leakage, or market shifts.
Participate in improving pricing workflows, tools, and internal documentation to support scalability and consistency.
Collaboration & Process Ownership
Work cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, and Carrier Procurement to improve pricing accuracy and response time.
Help document and refine pricing SOPs to support knowledge sharing and team alignment.
Contribute to pricing strategy discussions, bringing market insights and data-supported viewpoints to the table.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expert on current market conditions.
Acumen in Pricing Theory, Analytics Tools (Cube), and Bid Management process.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual reasoning skills.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to oversee projects and capture ideas.
Ability to extract data, summarize it and create visuals, Intermediate - to advanced, Microsoft Excel and Power Point fluency is very important in this role.
Ability to perform analysis and present information with clear conclusions and recommendations.
Possess a strong desire to "do things better" with a willingness to get involved at the base level to make that happen.
Ability to build relationships with all Bison team members and departments.
Strong computer skills - Windows, MS Office Suite, other software (i.e. - Relational Databases, MS SQL, Python or R, and Microsoft Power BI)
Strong interpersonal skills - including strong customer service and relationship-building skills
Natural investigative disposition and strong abstract reasoning ability.
