Summary:

The Medication Aide is responsible for supporting the physician, staff, and patients in a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization, and communication. Collaborates with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to provide continuity of care. The Medication Aide works under the direction of the licensed nurse or medical assistant and adheres to department and organization policies/procedures and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups:

Neonate (birth - 28 days)

Infant (29 days - less than 1 year)

Pediatric/Child (1 year - 12 years)

Adolescent (12 years - 18 years)

Adult (18 years - 65 years)

Geriatric (over 65 years)

  • Incorporates cultural considerations in the provisions of care.

  • Knowledge of growth and developmental stages.

  • Considers life changes/effects on health beliefs and behaviors.

  • Provides necessary safety measures.

  • Provides information and involves family/caregiver in decision making. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by Faith Health to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Works under the direction of a licensed nurse or provider to collect and report basic data, observe patient status, and support licensed professionals in identifying health needs.

  • Assist in developing and implementing plans of care by recognizing deviations from normal health status and communicating observations to the care team.

  • Provide direct patient care including comfort measures, emotional support, restorative nursing, and technical skills within scope of practice, while ensuring a safe and healthy environment.

  • Performing technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures

  • Support clinic operations by rooming patients, obtaining vital signs and weights, preparing charts and records, and assisting with procedures and tests as applicable.

  • Participate in the evaluation of care by documenting and communicating patient responses and assisting with data collection.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality, professional competency, and compliance with organizational policies and scope of practice.

  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, demonstrate flexibility by floating to other units as needed, and contribute to staff development through precepting and team engagement.

  • Participate in departmental activities, meetings, and evidence-based initiatives to promote quality care and continuous improvement.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support patient care and organizational needs.

Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.

Job Requirements:

The requirements listed below must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION (Minimum Requirements for Position):

GED or High School Diploma required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Required

Previously or currently Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification preferred.

Current Certified Medication Aide 40-hour (CMA) license from the State of Nebraska required.

Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire) required

Previous Experience Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:

Previous clinical experience required.

Skills/Knowledge Requirements:

SKILLS (If Applicable):

Language Skills - Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language required.

Other Certifications/Requirements Required

Current, valid driver's license issued in the state of legal residence required.
