Responsibilities:
  • The Medical Laboratory Technicin professional responsibility within their scope of practice:
    • Abides-by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values.
    • Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality.
    • Requires regular and prompt attendance.
    • Works the assigned schedule including overtime and call as required
    • Maintains expertise. Participates in continuing education activities.
  • The Medical Laboratory Techiclan patient care/department responsibilities:
    • Requires minimal supervision to safely perform patient care/essential functions.
    • Utilizes proper body mechanics when:
      * Moving, positioning. and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety
      * Moving equipment/supplies that is necessary to perform essential functions
    • Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis.
    • Follows standard procedures to perform routine, timed and STAT moderate and complex laboratory tests, recogJ1izes deviation
    • from expected results, analyzes and corrects problems maintaining written or computer documentation.
    • Maintains instruments by performing maintenance procedures and calibration.
    • Reports all critical value following laboratory protocol.
    • Operates and utilizes necessary programs on LIS, HIS or PC.
    • Draws blood specimens from patients.
    • Monitors the work pending log of designated section and document action taken.
    • Maintains a neat and efficient work area by cleaning bench tops, equipment/instrument. and replenishing supplies in a timely manner.
    • Use the computer and EMR related data responsibly.
    • Perform other lab related duties as required.
  • The Medical Laboratory Technician communication responsibilities:
    • Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team in person
      and via telephone.
    • Responds to overhead pages
  • The Medical Laboratory Technician documentation responsibilities:
    • Maintains accurate and complete records by:
      • Analyzing quality control data and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision and refers to supervisor .
      • Recognizing abnormal and/or critical values, takes action following established protocols and/or refers to supervisor .
      • Documenting results or actions in writing or by computer .
      • Documenting customer complaints, ordering, and registration errors and reporting each to supervisor for corrective action.
  • The Medical Laboratory Technician citizenship responsibilities:
    • Accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict.
    • Cooperates, helps others, and improves the performance of the unit.
    • Completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements.
    • Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job.
    • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.
  • The responsibilities for providing age specific care:
    • Demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to the following patient populations:
      • Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adults, Geriatric
      • Neonate, Infant Toddler/Preschool, School age/Adolescent, Reproductive Age, Post/Peri Menopausal
  • The responsibilities for unit/departmental specifically:
    • Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis.
    • Follows standard procedures to perform routine, timed and STAT moderate and complex laboratory tests, recognizes deviation
      from expected results, analyzes and corrects problems maintaining written or computer documentation.
    • Maintains instruments by performing maintenance procedures and calibration.
    • Reports all critical values following laboratory protocol.

  • OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Other duties as assigned/required.
    • Participates on committees as assigned.
    • Participates in Performance Improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of CARE process as assigned.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned
Additional Information:

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) from an accredited institution Required OR
  • Completion of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) training program Required
  • Registry eligible with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
