Instructor, Maternity Nursing (Tenure Track)
Overview:
Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Nursing Instructor to teach at our Main Campus location and clinicals in a maternity care setting. Qualified candidates will be responsible for teaching maternity nursing theory, clinical, and college lab courses at a variety of levels in the associate degree program. Responsibilities will include instructing students and designing relevant classroom and clinical activities to assist students in attaining the competencies for successful completion of the nursing program.
Nursing faculty are responsible for student advising relative to academic success in the nursing program, collaborating with program chair(s) and course leads, co-teaching with other faculty, collaborating with members of the Health and Public Safety Division, and supporting the needs of the community through activities of the Nursing Program, Division, and College. Instruction takes place in the classroom with web enhanced technology, as well as a variety of clinical sites around Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
Essential Duties:
- Assess student performance in achieving course objectives and provide formative and summative feedback related to the student's progress in a timely manner.
- Promote student success in their courses and program through academic advising and referral to college resources (tutoring, etc.).
- Provide academic advice to students, including information regarding the curriculum, scheduling, cooperative education, and career opportunities.
- Address student issues promptly, including communicating through the appropriate chain of command as identified in the faculty handbook.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities.
- Remain current in the nursing field as related to teaching and professional responsibilities.
- Participate in professional development activities and college service days as required for licensure and the AAUP contract.
- Nursing faculty are expected to teach day and evening, theory and clinical, courses depending on the program needs.
- Participate in peer mentoring program and demonstrate continuous progress toward completing all required activities and documentation required for tenure.
- Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by participating in professional development activities, utilizing feedback from the peer mentor, and employing innovative teaching methodologies, techniques, and delivery method.
- Actively participate in College and Divisional activities, meetings, and committees.
- Assist with the accreditation process through active participation in the Faculty Organization and on 1 of 3 nursing committees.
- Develop course materials for use in assigned courses and share with course faculty and program chair.
- Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles.
- Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.
- Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials.
- Teach courses at various times and locations in response to institutional needs.
- Assists with ensuring that equipment and facilities are kept clean and in working order.
- Report the need to replace or order equipment to the Lab Manager and Program Chair.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master of Science in Nursing degree or will have completed degree by date of hire
- 5 years of nursing experience in an acute care setting
- 2 years of nursing experience in a maternity care setting
- Unencumbered Ohio registered nursing license
- Demonstrate competence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies
- Experience using diverse methods of classroom technology, and innovative instructional/academic support systems and programs
- Valid Driver's License and transportation to clinical sites
- Evening hours availability required, and occasional weekend hours as needed
- Meet standard physical requirements of an acute care nurse
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in nursing education
- Knowledge of Ohio Board of Nursing law and rule and ACEN accreditation standards
- Certified Nurse Educator credential
- Doctorate in Nursing or Education
- Experience using Simulation
- Registered Nurse Certified in Maternal Newborn Nursing or Inpatient Obstetric Nursing credential
