WSP is currently initiating a search for a Highway Resident Engineer to oversee new, replacement, or rehabilitated infrastructure with construction values ranging from $1-$50 million. This position can be based out of Portland, Augusta, or Eliot, ME, and Merrimack, NH.
Job Summary
The resident engineer will manage and oversee various work elements including excavation, backfilling, compaction, cast-in-place concrete from formwork to reinforcement, guardrail, drainage, overhead sign structures, and other incidental items. The resident engineer will report to the Construction Manager or Project Manager and may routinely or periodically act as their representative, depending on experience.
Responsibilities
Hands-on or management duties will include:
• Managing a staff of inspectors and on-call material technicians or surveyors. • Daily interface with the contractor, subcontractors, and project owner. • Chairing progress meetings and preparing minutes. • Reviewing and interpreting construction contract documents. • Overseeing work for conformance to plans and specifications. • Reviewing technical submittals and shop drawings for general intent and compliance. • Anticipating and helping resolve design and construction issues. • Reviewing contractors project schedule for general information related to schedule and logic. • Completing daily reports, measuring, calculating, and tracking unit price quantities. • Leading the contractors pay requisition development, review, and approval process. • Evaluating potential change orders and making recommendations. • Leading change order negotiations, review, and preparing negotiation position with owner. • Monitoring maintenance of traffic for compliance. • Taking and compiling photographs for tracking of daily progress. • Updating red-line drawings using Bluebeam. • Preparing and updating punch lists. • Coordinating final inspections and preparing final pay estimate. • Supporting the final closeout process.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
• High School Diploma • 11 years applicable experience, including 4 years of supervising staff. • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Average proficiency with MS Word Suite. • Valid drivers license. • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSPs health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
• Associate of Science Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or related field. • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or related field. • ACI or NETTCP certifications, or ability to attain within 3 months of hiring. • Hands-on experience with construction management software such as Site or Field Manager, APPIA, Procore, IPD, or similar systems. • Knowledge of Bluebeam. • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
