Position Title Adjunct Professor Teaching Load Part-time up to 9 credit hours during the Fall 2025 Semester Context General Education in the Liberal Arts Great Conversation Courses Adrian Colleges Essential Liberal Arts curriculum includes five great conversation courses The Meaning of Life Western Civilization Global Civilizations Art and What It Means To Be A U.S. Citizen. These courses are inspired by the Great Books pedagogy and use readings from the great texts and other methods to ensure that every Adrian College student will attain the minimum historical and cultural literacy required of a college graduate. The objective of each course is to present students with the best that has been thought and said" as Matthew Arnold put it. They are designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity and more advanced study. Moreover grouping these courses together as a series will allow give students a more connected and coherent academic experience. They will study the same or similar material themes and texts as students in other sections. This will encourage students across campus to discuss commonly considered topics and ideas and connect them as they move from course to course. Adrian College is seeking instructors for the following courses GCON 120 Western Civilization. Course Description This is a survey course that explores the rise fall and unique identities of nations and peoples descended from ancient Greece and the Roman Empire especially European nations their colonies and the cultures that emerged from them. This course entails a writing component . GCON 130 Global Civilizations. Course Description This is a survey course that explores the history and culture of Asian African Native American and other global nations and peoples. This course entails a writing component. GCON 140 Art. Course Description The course combines analyses of renowned artworks with immersive experiences and may include visits to local museums galleries and live performances. Emphasis is placed on cultivating critical thinking skills to deeply analyze and appreciate the nuances of artistic expression. This course has a writing component. Responsibilities This position involves teaching 3-credit courses in-person and will require frequent in-person and written interactions with students. The instructor will Instruct In person undergraduate courses which include required writing and speaking assignments. Hold in-person office hours as well as providing electronic support for students outside class meeting times Report mid-term and final grades within college-specified timelines Follow common syllabus requirements including posting assignment and course grades in Blackboard. Minimum requirements Masters Degree in areas in the Humanities related to these courses. Demonstrated ability to foster positive interactions with diverse populations Must be able to perform duties within the normal bounds of a college classroom environment Desired Qualifications Experience teaching in these areas at the college level Proficiency using course management software such as BlackBoard Interested individuals should contact Dr. Tony Coumoundouros at acoumoundourosadrian.edu .
