FIRE CHIEF

The City of Andover seeks an experienced, visionary leader to serve as Fire Chief. Reporting to the City Administrator, the Fire Chief provides strategic leadership for fire suppression, EMS, fire prevention, emergency management, and occupational safety programs. The Chief oversees a 24/7 combination department of full-time, duty crew, and paid-on-call personnel.

Responsibilities include directing fire and EMS operations, leading recruitment and retention efforts, managing budgets and capital planning, and fostering a unified department culture. The Chief serves as Emergency Manager, Fire Marshal, Safety Coordinator, and departmental spokesperson, while working closely with the City Council and City Administrator.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, 10 years of progressively responsible fire service, EMS, or public safety administration experience, including 5 years in command-level leadership, and a valid driver's license.
