JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. We develop and maintain realistic integrated test and training environments, and prepare our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges.

JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision of a senior-level engineer, a Field Engineer II performs a variety of fundamental field engineering tasks involved in the installation, operations, testing, and maintenance of electronic equipment and systems.

Employee will be responsible for the following functions/duties:

  • Conduct research and reference reading to assist higher-level engineers in obtaining technical information
  • Keep informed of and study currently approved standards, codes, and procedures applied to engineering specialty
  • Perform engineering or other highly technical tasks that are varied and may be somewhat difficult in character
  • Plan and carry out successive engineering steps and resolve technical problems by standard practices and techniques, such as tolerance studies and design calculations
  • Support projects with limited scope or parts of more complex projects with detailed instructions on the intent and scope of the documents to be prepared
  • Generate sections of design specifications of more complex projects or complete specifications of less complex projects
  • Using computer-assisted test methods, conduct laboratory investigations on equipment or systems
  • Assist in preparation of reports, correspondence, or technical studies
  • Prepare, deliver, and submit technical presentations for in-process design and review meetings

 

RANGE POSITION DESCRIPTION: A Field Engineer II in this specialty manages the installation, maintenance, and optimization of the physical infrastructure that powers and connects mission systems. This includes everything from high-speed fiber optic backbones to complex power distribution units (PDUs) within data centers or tactical facilities.

Essential Functions / Duties

  • Install, terminate, and test copper (Cat6/6a) and fiber optic (Single-mode/Multi-mode) cabling. Perform fusion splicing and use OTDRs to verify link integrity.
  • Supervise or perform the installation of electrical circuits, power panels, and Grounding, Bonding, and Shielding (GBS) systems to protect sensitive equipment.
  • Interpret Blueprints, Schematics, and Rack Elevation drawings to plan cable pathways, conduit runs, and equipment placement.
  • Conduct site surveys and inspections to ensure all installations meet "Industry Standards" (TIA/EIA) and "Military Standards" (MIL-STD).
  • Diagnose physical layer failures, such as cable breaks, electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues, or power fluctuations using specialized test gear.
  • Maintain accurate "As-Built" drawings, cable spreadsheets, and labeling schemes to ensure long-term facility manageability.
  • Proficiency with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E (Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace).
  • Adherence to ANSI/TIA-568 standards for telecommunications cabling and BICSI best practices.
  • TEMPEST/Red-Black Separation: In secure environments, ensuring the physical separation of classified ("Red") and unclassified ("Black") signal lines to prevent data compromise.
  • Managing Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and backup generator cut-overs to prevent downtime during power loss.

 

REQUIREMENTS: An associate’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline, or formal academic/vocational/military training and a minimum of seven years of technical/professional experience in the specialty field are required for this position.

In addition, a Field Engineer II must possess the following qualifications:

  • Professional knowledge of applicable engineering concepts and principles and familiarity with related engineering fields
  • Practical knowledge of test methods and practices sufficient to perform routine to more complex engineering procedures and to prepare or make minor modifications of standard test procedures or test equipment work instructions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Planning/organizational skills
  • Must possess a valid, state issued driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

SALARY: The expected pay range for this position is $86,000 to $110,000 annually

The salary range offered for this position is a good faith description of the expected salary range this role will pay.  JT4 LLC considers factors such as (but not limited to) responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and business considerations when extending an offer.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting and use of a computer terminal; constant use of sight abilities while writing, reviewing, and editing documents; constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication; and constant mental alertness are required.

Travel to remote company work locations may be required.
