Job Title: Environmental Coordinator
Job Description
The Environmental Coordinator acts as a critical bridge between field personnel and regulatory agencies, ensuring that construction activities comply with environmental regulations and internal standards. This role focuses on maintaining accurate environmental records, managing permits, coordinating hazardous material reporting, and supporting field teams so they clearly understand and follow environmental requirements. The position offers an entry point into environmental compliance with opportunities to grow into assistant project management or project management roles on larger projects.
Responsibilities
- Act as a liaison between field personnel and regulatory agencies to support ongoing environmental compliance on construction projects.
- Update construction site databases and maintain accurate environmental records, including audit reports, inspection files, and project diaries.
- Coordinate hazardous material reporting, including waste labeling and waste characterization, to ensure compliance with RCRA regulations.
- Monitor and track permit expiration dates for waste transfer notes and discharge consents, ensuring that no work is performed under expired permits.
- Support field ("boots on the ground") personnel by helping them understand and follow environmental regulations and company procedures.
- Organize and maintain safety data sheets (SDS) and coordinate replenishment of spill kits and other environmental safety resources.
- Manage and organize records related to environmental audits, inspections, and compliance activities for future review and regulatory inquiries.
- Assist in documenting significant environmental compliance issues, including inspection results that reveal noncompliance with cleanup orders or other regulatory requirements.
- Provide administrative and data management support for environmental reporting, including gathering, organizing, and entering compliance-related data.
- Support environmental safety and health initiatives by reinforcing safety procedures and assisting with OSHA-related compliance activities.
- Assist with general office management tasks to support smooth day-to-day operations within the environmental and project teams.
- Contribute to remediation and environmental compliance efforts by coordinating documentation, tracking actions, and following up on corrective measures.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure timely completion and submission of required environmental reports and regulatory notifications.
Essential Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams for documentation, communication, and data management.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and records in a structured and accurate manner.
- At least 1 year of office management experience, including handling administrative tasks, documentation, and coordination.
- Entry-level understanding of asbestos compliance regulations, with a strong interest in working in a compliance-heavy role.
- Experience or demonstrated ability in record maintenance, including organizing and maintaining environmental and compliance documentation.
- Experience or demonstrated ability in permit management, including tracking permit status and expiration dates.
- Experience or demonstrated ability in regulatory notification, including documenting and communicating significant compliance issues.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance principles, particularly related to environmental regulations and reporting requirements.
- Data management skills, including data gathering, entry, and organization for environmental and compliance reporting.
- Administrative support experience, especially in a compliance, environmental, or safety-focused environment.
- Awareness of environmental safety practices and safety procedures, including OSHA and environmental health concepts.
- Ability to support environmental compliance efforts, including hazardous material reporting, waste labeling, and waste characterization.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling environmental reports, permits, and compliance documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with QuickBooks, Procore, or Peachtree for project, financial, or administrative support is a plus.
- Experience with payroll processes or HR support functions is beneficial.
- Exposure to hands-on field operations, particularly in construction or environmental settings, is an advantage.
- Background or interest in remediation, environmental health, or environmental safety programs.
- Experience with regulatory reporting or compliance documentation in any industry is helpful.
- Interest in career growth into assistant project manager (APM) or project manager (PM) roles for larger projects.
- Ability to communicate clearly with both field personnel and office-based staff to support a collaborative compliance culture.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
