Job Title: Counselor Elementary School, Middle School, High School Reports To: Campus Principal Pay Grade: AP04 Workdays: ES 202, MSHS 207 Minimum Salary: ES 60810.08, MSHS 62315.28

Type of Assignment: Exempt Mid-Point Salary: ES 75073.30, MSHS 76931.55 Contract Status: Chapter 21 Funding: This position is locally funded. Consideration for directly related experience supported by an official service record or experience affidavit. Annualized pay may be pro-rated based on actual start date.

Position Summary: Plan implement and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at assigned campus. Counsel students to fully develop each students academic career, personal and social abilities, and address the needs of special population students.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas school counselor certificate
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience
  • Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee approximately 50.00 paid by the candidate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff

Essential Functions:

  • Guidance: Plan and conduct structured group lessons to deliver districts guidance curriculum effectively and in accordance with students developmental needs.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with teachers who teach guidance-related curriculum.
  • Counseling: Guide individual students, groups of students, and parents to plan, monitor, and manage the students own educational and career development, including creating and reviewing personal graduation plans and providing information about post-secondary opportunities.
  • Consultation: Coordinate school home and community resources and refer students, parents, and others to special programs and services as needed.
  • Advocacy: Work collaboratively to advocate for individual students and specific groups of students.

Assessment:

  • Interpret standardized test results and assessment data to guide students in individual goal setting and planning.

Program Management and Administration:

  • Plan implement evaluate and promote continuous improvement of a balanced comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program that includes guidance curriculum, responsive services, individual planning, and system support components.
  • Advocate for a school environment that acknowledges and respects diversity.
  • Compile maintain and file all reports, records, and other documents.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Adhere to legal, ethical, and professional standards for school counselors, including current professional standards of competence and practice.

Daily Attendance and Punctuality:

  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise assigned counseling aides and clerical employees.

Working Conditions:

  • Tools and equipment used: standard office and instructional equipment, including personal computer and peripherals.
  • Posture: Frequent walking, prolonged sitting, occasional bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse. Occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying less than 15 pounds.
  • Environment: Work inside, may work outside, regular exposure to noise.
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions and prolonged or irregular hours.
