Employment Opportunity: Extended Day at Major Howard W. Beal School POSITION: Co-Site Coordinator 2026-2027 School Year

Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Co-Site Coordinator for the Extended Day Program at Major Howard W. Beal School.

The Beal Site Coordinators are responsible for the oversight, development and implementation of Extended Day programs and services in their building. The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented self-starter with strong leadership, organizational, management, communication and collaboration skills.

We are interested in candidates who are invested in the achievement, equity, and access of all learners in and beyond the classroom.

The hours for this position are 7:00am-9:00am and 1:00pm-6:00pm. This is a school year, benefits-eligible position.

The current pay rate for this position is $26.99-$32.95 per hour, based on experience. The 2026-2027 rates are to be determined pending School Committee approval.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to program staff.
  • Ensure program includes enriching, age-appropriate activities that contribute to the cognitive, social, emotional and physical well-being and growth of each participant.
  • Ensure that the environment fosters positive self-esteem, independence, and respect of individuality for both students and staff.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate, positive and consistent behavior management practices.
  • Interact with children in a nurturing, supportive manner that encourages their involvement in activities, while providing structure and clear expectations for student behavior.
  • Establish respectful, regular communication with parents regarding their child's progress. This includes communication on an informal daily basis, via email and telephone, and through regular newsletters. Schedule conferences when needed.
  • Work with principal, teachers, counselors and other staff at the school to ensure program success.
  • Maintain a clear and consistent line of communication with program staff, school administration and parents. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, while demonstrating respect and sensitivity.
  • Determine staff availability and staff schedule during the school year. Participate in interviewing and hiring program staff. Contact substitutes to cover for staff as needed and ensure safe adult-to-student ratio.
  • Deliver regular feedback to staff through group and one-on-one meetings. Conduct written performance appraisals annually.
  • Plan, order, and provide a nutritious daily snack.
  • Develop safety protocol for food allergies, including staff training.
  • Purchase equipment and supplies and maintain site budget.
  • Plan occasional field trips and special events, especially on early-release days.
  • Communicate any student behavioral or medical concerns that may need additional support from the Director.
  • Check email throughout the day to ensure that program updates and communications are reviewed and responded to in a timely manner.
  • Accurately complete and submit time cards, incident reports, receipts, site reports, attendance and other ESC program related records.
  • Attend all staff meetings and scheduled events as well as a yearly First Aid and CPR training. Meetings may be scheduled before or after regular program hours.
  • Maintain records and files relating to student attendance, health concerns, and behavioral issues.
  • Review all student registration information regarding allergies, health issues, custodial restrictions. Share sensitive information as-needed to ensure student safety, while maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, recreation or related field, preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise team members
  • 3+ years of experience working with children ages 5-12 in a school or recreational setting, preferred but not required
  • Strong knowledge of age-appropriate activities and behavior management

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to effectively communicate with students, parents and other professionals.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, climb, run.
  • The employee must occasionally be able to lift and/or move children/objects.
  • This position requires a person who can work with many distractions, interruptions and still accomplish their objectives and meet established deadlines.
  • The employee must be able to work in a noisy, fast-paced environment, and still be able to concentrate and keep children safe.
  • The employee must be able to respond to emergency situations (e.g. injured students, behavior problems, etc.).
  • The employee is required to work outside up to 90 minutes per day in any weather condition that is deemed safe and appropriate for students.
