The Palmer District Court of the Alaska Court System is accepting applications for a Chambers Judicial Assistant 1 (range 12) to provide clerical support for a team of two or more District Court Judges, and provide occasional support to other judicial assistants.
Personnel rules will be applied to determine step placement for the successful internal candidate.
The following are regularly scheduled duties:
- Responsible for the smooth flow of paperwork and files between the judges' chambers and other divisions; scan files and route to and from appropriate judge;
- Type and perform judges' edits on correspondence, orders and documents authorized by the judges; generate simple orders for signature;
- Work files with pending motions and determine readiness and urgency for handling by appropriate judge;
- Distribute and docket signed orders and notices; maintain motion(s) section in CourtView;
- Manage and maintain matters under advisement and assigned caseload;
- Receive and screen calls and visitors to chambers; use tact and discretion in the amount and type of information given in response to inquiries;
- Print, amend, and organize jury instructions when requested by judges;
- Prepare and submit judges' pay affidavits; initiate and prepare travel expense claims;
- Other duties may include dictation, assistance with special projects, and coordinating meetings.

- Ability to establish priorities and perform administrative assignments independently.
- Ability to handle with courtesy and tact a wide variety of public contacts, in writing and in person.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions following a minimum of explanation.
- Experience maintaining office files and/or records systems.
- Experience proofreading and editing professional documents.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
This position is assigned to the court's classified service.
The Work Hours
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.
