Position Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct resident care and support with daily living activities while promoting resident dignity, comfort, safety, and independence. The CNA works under the supervision of licensed nursing staff to ensure quality care in accordance with facility policies and state and federal regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, and mobility.
  • Take and record vital signs, weights, intake/output, and other assigned observations.
  • Observe residents and report changes in condition, behavior, or safety concerns to licensed nursing staff promptly.
  • Answer call lights and respond to resident requests in a timely and compassionate manner.
  • Assist with transfers, positioning, ambulation, and use of mobility devices while following proper safety procedures.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized resident rooms and common areas.
  • Provide emotional support and encourage resident independence and participation in activities.
  • Follow infection control, hand hygiene, and safety procedures at all times.
  • Document care provided accurately and timely according to facility policy.
  • Assist with meal service, hydration, and feeding as needed.
  • Participate in shift reports, in-services, and required training programs.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with nursing staff, therapy, dietary, housekeeping, and other departments to ensure quality resident care.

Qualifications

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of employment.
  • Current CPR certification preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff.
  • Compassionate, dependable, and patient-centered approach to care.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Previous long-term care or skilled nursing experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, move, and transfer residents using proper equipment and body mechanics.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to push/pull equipment and assist residents with mobility.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.

Working Conditions

  • May be exposed to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and varying resident behaviors.
  • Fast-paced healthcare environment requiring teamwork and multitasking.
