About the Position:
The City of Grand Junction is seeking a Parks Crew Leader for Sports Fields at Lincoln Park Sports Complex. This role involves overseeing the maintenance of premier facilities, including Lincoln Park, Canyon View Sports Complex, Columbine, and Kronkright fields, all part of a 350-acre developed park system. Key responsibilities include maintaining playing surfaces and surrounding facilities at high-profile locations such as Stocker Stadium, Suplizio Field, and the Hamilton Family Tower, which host major events like Colorado Mesa University athletics, School District 51 sports, the Grand Junction Jackalopes, and the National Junior College World Series. We are looking for a motivated, hardworking, and team-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment filled with sporting events. The ideal candidate is detail orientated, has excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and has an organized approach to maintenance scheduling. About Grand Junction Parks Operations:
The City of Grand Junction's Park Operations Division includes Cemeteries, Forestry, Horticulture, Open Space, Plant Health, River District, Sports Facilities, and Turf & Irrigation. We are responsible for the maintenance of 35 developed parks within the City. In addition to these developed parks, the Division also maintains the miles of trails, Las Colonias Amphitheater, Canyon View Regional Park, Lincoln Park Sports Complex, and open space natural areas across the City.
This Division operates and maintains over 350 acres of developed parks, 285 acres of undeveloped parks, 55 acres of school properties, 37,000 public trees, 600 acres of open space, and 21 miles of riverfront and urban trails with 45 fulltime positions and over 30 seasonal staff members.
What You'll Do:
• Supervise a team of groundskeepers, assigning tasks, training staff, and ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.
• Oversee the preparation, maintenance, and repair of baseball fields, softball fields, and other sports-related surfaces, ensuring they meet professional standards.
• Conduct regular inspections of fields and facilities to identify potential hazards, repair needs, and maintenance opportunities.
• Order and manage supplies, such as fertilizers, soil conditioners, grass seed, and field chalk.
• Maintain and repair irrigation and drainage systems to prevent water accumulation and ensure healthy turf.
• Implement proper mowing, aeration, fertilization, topdressing, and pest control practices to maintain turf health.
• Oversee accurate placement of lines, bases, and field markings for various sports.
• Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as mowers, aerators, infield groomers, and utility vehicles.
• Identify turf, shrub, and tree diseases, parasites, and other problems.
• Work closely with coaches, league officials, and event coordinators to ensure field and facility readiness for games, practices, and events.
• Coordinate field preparation during inclement weather, including tarp placement and removal.
• Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For:
• Three (3) years of increasingly responsible public works or landscaping or grounds maintenance experience, preferably with baseball fields.
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver's license.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Pesticide Applicator Certification.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Sports Field Manager Certification.
• Ability to non-standard working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during the sports season.
