The Assistant Engineer position begins in Seattle during winter and involves assisting the Chief Engineer with vessel maintenance, repairs, and safety protocols. Requirements include knowledge of diesel and electrical systems, computer skills, and relevant certifications such as STCW, TWIC, and CPR.
Key duties involve performing routine maintenance, record-keeping, supporting safety procedures, and communication with passengers. The role demands physical stamina, ability to work long hours, and adaptability to confined and outdoor environments.
Work hours are typically 12-hour shifts during sailing, with rotations off the vessel. Compensation ranges from $141 to $165 per day plus a $70 tip guarantee.
