Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health has been providing high quality mental health treatment in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment in the Hampton Roads area since 1986. Kempsville Center provides psychiatric inpatient hospitalization and psychiatric residential care to children and adolescents exhibiting behavioral and/or mental health concerns. Residents and patients also display significant needs in the areas of social, interpersonal, educational or vocational functioning that require special care and attention. The Acute Inpatient Hospitalization program accept both males and females ages 9-17 and the Residential program accepts male and female adolescents ages 11-17. Kempsville Center is TRICARE®-certified.

Treatment Programs

Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health’s Acute Inpatient Hospitalization program is designed to meet the needs of children and adolescents ages 4-17 experiencing emotional and behavioral issues. This highly structured program takes place in a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment with the youngest and most vulnerable children ages 4-11 having a completely separate and wing.

Our program is a structured inpatient hospitalization program for children and adolescents. A multidisciplinary team of professionals, led by a child and adolescent psychiatrist, will develop an individualized treatment program consisting of intensive therapeutic interventions to assist the young person in developing the tools they need to cope in today’s world.
