Western Pennsylvania Comprehensive Treatment Centers provides individuals aged 18 and older with outpatient treatment for opioid addiction. Our medication assisted treatment offers patients the opportunity to experience relief from the physical symptoms of withdrawal while progressing towards a future that is substance free. The following prescription medications are available for patients to incorporate into their comprehensive plans of treatment:
Methadone: Methadone is a synthetic medication that provides patients with relief from the physical symptoms of withdrawal while eliminating cravings for continued opioid use. When taken as prescribed, the use of methadone is extremely safe and effective in the treatment of opioid dependency. Methadone will not cause patients to experience feelings of euphoria, which allows them to productively play a role in their recovery.
Subutex: Using buprenorphine as its active ingredient, Subutex eliminates withdrawal symptoms while keeping cravings for continued opioid use at bay. Subutex is a partial opioid agonist-antagonist that blocks the effects that opioids have within a patient’s brain while allowing him or her to productively take part in daily activities such as work, driving, and school.
Suboxone: Utilizing a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone, Suboxone eliminates painful symptoms of withdrawal while diminishing cravings for continued opioid use. Unlike other medications available in treatment, use of Suboxone will cause patients to experience withdrawal symptoms should they attempt to abuse opioids during the course of treatment.
