Aegis Therapies

A Greek myth tells of the aegis (e-jes), a shield associated with Zeus, the ruler of the Olympian gods. Thought to possess supernatural powers, the aegis’ impermeable force of defense eventually brought it to symbolize Zeus’ strength, knowledge and leadership. These exact qualities form the foundation Aegis Therapies is built upon.

We earned our reputation through the integrity, passion and commitment of our employees. Our success is driven by the value we create for our customers and our patients. The clinical excellence we achieve is the result of our unique “outcome driven,” clinically consistent model of care.

From proven clinical capabilities and professional staffing -- to compliance management and exclusive rehabilitative programs -- we fulfill our company’s mission: To improve the lives of the people we serve through compassion and innovation in healthcare.

Our unity of experience at Aegis creates a powerful force, carrying forward the attributes of the mythical aegis to customers, residents and the industry, both now and into the future.

Aegis Therapies Wins McKnight's Long-Term Care News Readers' Choice Award

-- Named Top Rehabilitation Services Company --

FORT SMITH, Ark., December 13, 2005 -- When asked which rehabilitation services company made the biggest impact on their work lives over the past 25 years, readers of McKnight's Long-Term Care News named Aegis Therapies as a top choice.

The magazine's Readers' Choice Awards, presented in 12 categories, recognize companies whose outstanding products and services make a real difference in the care provided to the nation's frail and elderly.

The award competition celebrates the publication's 25th anniversary. No prompting or choices were offered to voters who each wrote in his or her own answers based on personal knowledge and experience. Aegis was named most often by readers as the contract rehabilitation company whose therapy programs produce the best outcomes.

"We're thrilled to receive this recognition," said Martha Schram, President of Aegis Therapies. "Readers of McKnight's Long-Term Care News are the top healthcare decision-makers in the country, and their selection of Aegis is a highly credible validation of the quality care we provide."

"Our readers have spoken, and they have named Aegis one of the most influential firms in the rehabilitation field during the past quarter century," said John O'Connor, Editorial Director for McKnight's Long-Term Care News. "We commend Aegis for achieving this honor, and for helping long-term care professionals deliver better care to our nation's seniors."

Our core business is geriatric rehabilitation, providing therapy services that respect and acknowledge the uniqueness of aging.

Our older-adult Model of Care is centered on our belief that geriatric rehabilitation needs to be delivered within a continuum of care. We design rehabilitation programs -- such as neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation programs, and wound management programs -- to meet the needs of residents in your facility.

We also address the “nontraditional” patients who may:
Experience balance problems and be at risk for falls
Have multiple medical problems
Suffer from dementia
We train our therapists to think beyond traditional therapy and explore whether it might be best to restore, compensate and/or adapt for a patient’s loss of function. They demonstrate comprehensive clinical reasoning through consistent application of this Model of Care across all programs.

You want a provider of rehabilitative services better than its peers. You need a solid partner offering the best therapy programs possible. Here are some reasons Aegis fills these needs: Aegis hires and retains high-quality employees. We hire qualified therapists and retain them at an exceptional 90 percent. This retention results in dependable, consistent relationships between the facility, therapist and patient. Aegis promotes a Master Clinician program. This means we can optimize the use of therapists having specific clinical expertise, program development skills and/or specialized training. Aegis managers have direct access to clinical support. Each local manager has direct access to our corporate Clinical Services Department, providing additional support and resources to ensure the best clinical care. Aegis is an advocate for our patients and customers. We keep abreast of ever-changing regulatory issues, we assertively pursue the denial/appeal process, and we can indemnify our customers for therapy denials based on medical necessity. Aegis has a unique rehabilitation outcome measure (ROM) system. All of our clinicians are credentialed to use this system, which is approved by JCAHO. Aegis has innovative, industry-leading programs in place. These include our older-adult Model of Care, Freedom Through Functionality, and the Geriatric Enhanced Modalities (GEM) program.

With more than 35 years of experience providing physical, occupational and speech therapies, Aegis is considered the nation’s premier provider of rehabilitative therapy.
