Job Description

Looking for a Van Driver to work a split shift; 1PM - 4PM and 8PM - 10PM.

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients from various locations and facilities to the Hospital campus and/or other designated locations.  This position will maintain a daily log of mileage and gasoline usage and submit all gas receipts to the appropriate person(s).   Responsible for cleaning the interior of the car on a regular basis, assuring the vehicle is presentable for the transport of patients.  Position will also maintain mileage records for the purpose of scheduling routine maintenanceResponsible for ensuring that patients are supervised; safety is maintained at all times; and patients are treated with respect and dignity.

Job Requirements

High school degree or equivalent required.

Experience:  Experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric patients preferred. Minimum of two (2) years paid or volunteer professional driving experience. Minimum of one (1) year experience in a customer service position.

License: Valid driver’s license and a favorable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), along with proof of insurance.

Additional Requirements:  CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact. May be required to work flexible hours and overtime. At least one (1) year experience driving 8-12 passenger vans professionally.      

Job Responsibilities:

  • Comply with established policy and procedure requiring a safe, clean vehicle.
  • Employs appropriate crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as required and according to policy and procedure.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the facility and protocol (policy and procedure) guidelines.
  • Shuttles patients to appropriate places that are approved by appropriate supervisor.
  • Protects patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA requirements.
  • Uses only equipment trained to use and operates all equipment in a safe manner.
  • Reports all potential hot spots and safety concerns to supervisor/manager.
  • Practices preventative safety procedures as set forth by the Hospital.
  • Reports all accidents and incidents observed on shift to manager immediately.
  • Inspects exterior and interior of vehicle at beginning of each shift for properly operating headlights, turn signals, brake lights, interior courtesy lights, air-conditioning or heating, warning lamps, mirror adjustments, properly inflated tires, windshield wipers, vehicle damage, etc. prior to moving vehicle.
  • Monitors vehicle condition and records malfunctioning items or damage and submits to manager.
  • Must notify management in writing immediately of any mechanical problem or damage of any kind to vehicle.
  • Must notify management in writing immediately of medical conditions that may affect the ability to safely operate assigned vehicle.
  • Must be able to learn and remember pick-up and destination points.
  • Must be able to respond to unforeseen traffic situations that may require use of alternate routing while transporting patients.
