Job Description

The Albany, NY office of SaxBST is searching for a Senior Tax Associate.  You will be a part of a team that works on a variety of tax compliance, research, and consulting services for a wide range of clientele.  The Senior Tax Associate will be responsible for developing strong project management skills, allocating appropriate resources, responding to deadlines, and working within budgets.  In addition, the Senior Tax Associate will have responsibilities for training and developing associates in processes and technical matters.

Essential Skill Sets:

 

                    Takes responsibility for client work being performed on time, appropriate scope of services and within budget; participate in budget development 
                    Understands the big picture for client’s business, objectives and industry and thinks creatively to research solutions to tax problems
                    Takes responsibility for service quality, thoroughness and accuracy; interacts with clients to gather data, relevant facts, and follow-up on open items
                    Stays current on technical tax developments and shares applicable information with others; ability to present technical matters to team members
                    Assesses problem/issue materiality and interprets the implications for the client; understands client’s tolerance for risk
                    Participates as a confident knowledge resource and idea generator in client/team meetings  
                    Demonstrates an interest to take on work outside of comfort zone, including a willingness to accept assignments in tax areas beyond income tax
                   

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting is required (MST preferred).
  • CPA or significant progress towards certification
  • Minimum of three years of current public accounting experience with a specific experience in taxation; problem solving skills are essential for this position.
  • Specific experience with large, multi-state corporate income tax engagements; recent experience with, and strong understanding of, tax accounting methods.
  • Demonstrated technical tax research skills and familiarity with IRC and Treasury Regulations; a sample of a redacted writing sample of research prepared.
  • Experience with partnership taxation matters, including specific understanding of partnership allocations is preferred.
  • Relevant experience with tax accruals and uncertain tax positions under ASC 740
  • Familiar with and adherence to AICPA ethics rules, Circular 230, IRC Section 6694 and other professional standards.
  • Relevant technical experience in closely held commercial businesses, as well as not-for-profit organizations.
