Quality Assurance Director

Job Description

The Quality Assurance Director is responsible for maintaining consistent quality within Quiznos specifications across all assigned ingredient categories, and manages vendors from a quality perspective.  This position also directs vendors to implement corrective action to resolve all quality deviations in a timely manner. He/she is responsible for assisting with the development and commercialization of all products as requested by VP QA and Sr. Director Culinary Innovation. The QA Director will also play a leadership role within the department and will direct QA Managers and Specialists in their daily activities, projects, and responsibilities.


FUNDAMENTAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 25% time in plant Quality Assurance and vendor management
  • 25% time in product evaluation and reporting
  • 25% time in new product/vendor commercialization and/or product or process improvement
  • 25% time in QA program leadership and department administration


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop, maintain, and update QA Programs and Specifications for all assigned Quiznos products/ingredients
  • Maintain product formulas and process parameters
  • Execute supplier plant QA/Food Safety audits as required
  • Maintain confidentiality of all Quiznos Product Specifications, Product Processing Specifications or Guidelines, Supplier Agreements, Product Formulas, and other documents that protect Quiznos proprietary product and business information
  • Evaluate samples from vendors to ensure quality and consistency
  • Ability to identify cost savings opportunities
  • Respond to franchise owners within 24 hours regarding quality issues
  • Partner with Purchasing and Sr. Director Culinary on product innovation/development
  • Effectively communicate with all ingredient suppliers from a quality and business standpoint
  • Prepare reports and presentations as needed
  • Support the Operations team in in testing products and developing store procedures
  • Attend weekly QA team update meetings and purchasing meetings
  • Participate in RFP process with purchasing and vendors, including matching products
  • Lead QA team through complicated situations such as food safety crises and product recalls, and report up to Senior Executives in the absence of VP of Quality
  • Prepare quality or food safety communications to FO community  
  • Support Marketing department with product and nutrition expertise

Job Requirements

EXPERIENCE:

  • 6 – 10 years of experience as a Restaurant Chain QA Manager or Director
  • 6 – 10 years of experience as a Food Manufacturing QA Manager or Director
  • Restaurant operations experience is a plus
  • Experience across all categories is required – proteins, dressings, produce, cheese, beverages, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough understanding of food plant QA processes and food safety requirements
  • Thorough understanding of food production processes
  • Fundamental knowledge of restaurant chain QA systems, including nutrition, food code, and health department regulations
  • Exceptional organizational skills, ability to multi-task and successfully function in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Proven project management and communication skills
  • MS Office application skills, data analysis, chart/graph reporting, Genesis, and CRM systems.

EDUCATION:

  • BS and/or MS degree in Food Science or other related degree

OTHER:

  • TRAVEL: Approximately 25-50% travel per month
  • Location: Denver
  • Relocation: Limited or not available
  • Salary: Negotiable; Commensurate with experience
