Youth Mentor / Childcare Worker
Sandhill Center is an innovative, nationally-recognized residential program for children between the ages of five and fourteen who are experiencing significant difficulties in functioning at home, in school, or in the community. Most of our residents can't adequately regulate their emotional states, and therefore present with serious emotional and behavioral challenges.
Our goal as a treatment provider is to create an environment in which care and nurture are hard to resist. Our treatment model encourages the development of close personal relationships, while confronting behaviors that interfere with that closeness. We look to the field of neuroscience to help us create powerful, focused intervention strategies.
Sandhill Center is located about 30 minutes south of the Albuquerque airport in a rural New Mexico valley. Our charming southwestern ranch homes provide living space for as many as thirty-two boys and girls. The peaceful, rural setting offers an ideal environment in which to foster a child's physical, emotional and behavioral health. These classic New Mexican properties include horse stables, riding arenas, basketball courts, a tennis court, and a swimming pool. Kids and adults work together to care for and enjoy the many horses, goats, dogs, cats, chickens, and peacocks which roam the property.
