Job Description

  

Pro Med HealthCare Services is currently recruiting for an experienced Anesthesiologist / Pain Specialist  for the following government contract opportunity:


Location:  Travis Air Force Base

Facility: 

A Joint Commission-accredited teaching hospital, David Grant USAF Medical Center is the Air Force Medical Service's flagship medical treatment facility in the United States, providing a full spectrum of health care and patient-centered treatment to a prime service area population of more than 130,000 TRICARE eligible patients in the immediate San Francisco-Sacramento vicinity and more than 377,000 Department of Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System eligible.

   

 

Shifts:  

Compressed tour of coverage of day and/or night shifts consisting of 8,10, 12 hour tours; This will include Federal Holidays and rotating weekends during an not to exceed 50 hour pay scale. On Call for 12-24 hours 1-2 time per month as needed.

       

Scope of Service:

  • Administer appropriate diagnostic evaluations, medical treatments and interventional therapies in the management of acute and chronic pain; and management of pain medicine addiction.
  • Direct and supervise the medical care provided by physician assistants, nurses, technicians and other pain clinic staff in the treatment of pain.
  • Provide consultation and assistance to other MTF providers in the evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic pain, including MEB recommendations.
  •  Provide routine and emergent anesthesia care for neonatal through geriatric patients with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classifications I - VI.
  • Provide regional and/or general anesthesia care for the following subspecialties: general surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, cardiothoracic, vascular, adult dentistry, pediatric dentistry, otolaryngology, neurosurgery, urology, ophthalmology, oral surgery, orthopedics, plastic surgery, podiatry, and dermatology.
  • Provide resuscitative care during a cardiopulmonary arrest, and sedation or general anesthetic care at remote locations.
  •  Supervise care and/or supervise the simultaneous delivery of anesthesia care by certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs); administer anesthesia in lieu of CRNA to patients whose condition poses a particular anesthetic difficulty.
  • Oversee the activities of the recovery room and administer appropriate drug and respiratory therapy in the recovery room setting.
  • Implement the proper use of mechanical ventilators in the recovery room, and as necessary, in the intensive care units.
  • Provide consultation regarding preoperative preparation, intra and postoperative anesthetic management, and treatment of chronic pain patients.
  • Consult with other members of the MTF medical and nursing staff to provide quality perioperative care.
  •  Document medical care in accordance with MTF regulations, Air Force Instructions (AFI), and the standards established by the American Society of Anesthesiologists. This includes discussing and revising DLC’s for active duty members IAW AFI 10-203.
  • Provide ongoing anesthesia care until relieved by a qualified anesthesiologist or certified registered nurse anesthetist.
  • Attend monthly Anesthesiology Department meetings (or Surgical Services Department meetings in the absence of an Anesthesiology Department), and quarterly MTF Medical/Dental Professional Staff meetings. This includes attendance at monthly Pain Management DAWG to specifically discuss chronic pain patients.

Job Requirements

 

  • Current board certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology or the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology.

  • Current board certification in Pain Medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology

  • Currently board certified/eligible by American Board of Addiction Medicine

  • CPR, BCLS, and ACLS certification must be obtained through the American Heart Association and/or Red Cross approved training program. PALS and NRP certifications are also required. All certifications require proof a cognitive and skills (hands-on) training/assessment was conducted.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Pain Medicine (including significant experience with a broad range of both interventional and medical therapies) and 24 months of experience with the DOD Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) or VA disability assessment process.
