Job Description

Head of Disability Benefits Management Responsibilities

  • Disability claims risk management, customer services and operations, across Long Term Disability (LTD), Short Term Disability (STD) and Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) administration.
  • Overall leadership of the Disability Claims Service strategy and growth.
  • Collaborates with sales on site visits and finals presentations.
  • TPA functions with dedicated teams for jumbo customers.
  • Developing and implementing strategic claims risk management strategies, processes and outcomes.
  • Managing diverse functions, including claim examination, determination and settlements, claim investigations social security assistance,  customer service and reporting, the design and execution of outcomes for the claims risk processes including risk strategies and protocols.
  • Has accountability for identification of key trends and financial performance of the disability loss ratio.
  • Working with Disability clinical organization, including medical directors, nurses and vocational rehabilitation teams in designing strategies and delivering program outcomes.
  • Business process strategy, design and execution.  Assesses individual and team performance on a regular basis and provides candid and timely developmental feedback: monitors training plans and ensures training needs are met.


Job Requirements

  • 15 or more years experience in disability claims risk management, customer service and operations.
  • 5 or more years executive leadership experience within Group Insurance Business such as Behavioral Health, Absence Management, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability.
  • Particular expertise within Long Term Disability.
  • Experience working across multiple insurance company functional areas to accomplish goals.



The Head of Disability is a key member of the Group Insurance senior leadership team of this nationally leading diversified health care benefits company. Their Group Insurance Business is comprised of market leading Behavioral Health, Absence Management, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Life and Long-Term Care businesses.  This role will interact closely with executive leaders of Specialty Businesses including Finance, Actuarial, Underwriting, Sales Distribution, and Customer Service.  Responsibilities will include development and execution strategies to drive growth and profitability, and maintaining oversight of claims service centers who manage disability claims and member/provider inquiries.
