Job Description


The Store Systems Application Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of application software within our stores environment by conceptualizing, documenting, designing, and maintaining complex system implementations. This role will be critical for current and upcoming projects related to our omnichannel and client personalization initiatives. This role will serve as a technical project lead indirectly supervising 2-5 associates and vendors to ensure projects are completed on-time and within budget.


  • Leads cross functional teams to define requirements and architect systemic solutions. Requirements include understanding the impacts to business processes to ensure project scope and impacts are well defined.
  • Provides project management oversight on Store Systems projects. Manages external and internal resources to ensure delivery of projects and enhancements ensuring on-time, within budget delivery.
  • Ensures that system changes to be installed are performed according to company guidelines, including appropriate testing, user signoff, and change impact analysis.
  • Organizes, understands, and as necessary, carries out IT system administrative tasks for the various store systems applications.
  • Acts independently on the majority of tasks with minimal supervision or assistance.
  • Responsible for the smooth day to day operations of the Store Systems applications including maintenance of customizations, batch schedules, and integration with other corporate systems and external vendors ensuring issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Main point of contact for Store Systems solutions for internal associates.
  • Partners with the business in prioritizing enhancements and support issues.
  • Researches current state of the industry with regard to store systems, including offerings from vendors, and practices adopted by retailers.
  • Determines methods and processes for monitoring support issues.
  • Prepares and monitors test scripts needed to deploy code and operating system changes to the store systems applications.
  • Serves as the backup to the primary store support analyst. Shared off-hours responsibility for store support. Must be willing to provide 24X7 support.
  • Serves as the backup for store systems deployment tasks.
  • Completes all other tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience with store systems: POS, Workforce Management, Task Management, Back Office systems such as receiving, MOS, Markdown, Reporting). MICROS-Retail Retail-J application and / or Empower Workforce Management experience is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of Windows (Linux is a plus).
  • Working knowledge of web application design, as well as POS integration and xml.
  • Experience with all phases of the software development life cycle.
  • Flexibility to respond to changes in approach and evolving priorities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external business partners.
  • Strong Vendor Management capabilities.
  • Ability to multi-task and take initiative.
