Job Description

Summary:

The person in this position will manage the continuous development and maintenance of an Environmental, Health and Safety System that meets all current regulatory requirements and is relevant to the activities of the business; will be responsible for the promotion of best practice in support of employee involvement in Environmental, Health & Safety awareness and improvement activities; will liaise with the Senior Operations’ group Environmental, Health & Safety Representative to ensure local strategy and activities are aligned with group expectations; and will actively participate in the sharing of information and best practice across Senior Operations’ group sites.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.


  • To further develop, promote and implement the company Environmental, Health & Safety Management policies and systems.


  • To provide advice and guidance on Federal and State compliance issues and to keep abreast of forthcoming and proposed legislation changes.


  • To review and where necessary update safety procedures in line with current Environmental, Health & Safety legislation requirements. To promote their implementation and ensure their effectiveness by continuous monitoring and review.


  • To continually assist Directors and Departmental Managers with actions necessary to comply with statutory requirement changes.


  • To carry out risk assessments, manage risk assessment teams, monitor and publish actions necessary to improve areas of non-compliance or concern.  Duties will include the provision of training as well as hands-on practical assistance.


  • To develop, maintain and communicate meaningful Environmental, Health & Safety performance metrics and to bring to the attention of senior management any adverse trends or concerns that the metrics identify.


  • To ensure all statutory inspections and examinations are carried out on time and in accordance with required standards and codes of practice. To maintain records for all statutory inspections, licenses and consents.


  • To conduct, in-line with Environmental, Health & Safety system requirements, regular workplace inspections, audits and safety tours, and to develop action plans that address the key findings.


  • To liaise, as required, with all external agencies and bodies, including enforcing authorities, insurance companies and trade organizations.

 

  • To further develop and maintain all emergency arrangements including those relating to fire and first aid situations.


  • To conduct accident and incident investigations in line with company policy and procedures.


  • To co-ordinate and communicate the activities of the Health & Safety, Environmental Improvement and Fire Safety committees and ensure all improvement actions are closed in a timely manner.  Provide the necessary training and support required by the committees to enable them to operate correctly and meet the business requirements and obligations.


  • To compile and maintain COSHH data sheets and provide risk assessments, training and awareness necessary to ensure the site remains compliant to current regulations.


  • To work with occupational health providers to develop an employee support system that actively reduces employee risks and reduces lost time due to absence.

Job Requirements

 

Education and/or Experience:  Must possess a Bachelor's Degree, Masters preferred; 5-7 years experience in a manufacturing environment; CSP; Ergonomic and Manual Handling Trainer; ISO14001 knowledge of solvent regulations and associated extraction requirements
