Job Description

The Lead Teacher is responsible for providing services specified in the IEPs of assigned students; instructs and supervises small groups of students in daily educational activities to increase their academic achievement level and to assess or effect changes in their social behavior. The Lead Teacher shall implement the educational program for each class.

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
• Provides direct group and individual instruction to students.
• Maintains a safe learning environment for students within the scope of The Arrow Center for Education Tangram administrative policies and procedures. 
• Supervises and manages student behavior in the classroom, school and school-sponsored functions.
• Utilizes a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to instruct groups of approximately nine (9) students. 
• Provides a learning environment that is individualized for students and works towards their personal level of independence.
• Assures the timely completion of all necessary paperwork to accurately record student progress.  This is to include daily attendance records, progress reports, transition planning guides, and behavioral logs.
• Prepares periodic and special evaluations of progress made on assigned student’s IEP. 
• Reports significant changes in behavior and academic progress and makes recommendations for plan changes.
• Participates as an active member of the treatment team.  Communicates all appropriate information within and outside the classroom, orally and in writing.
• Assists in the development and maintenance of a positive school culture.
• Maintains proper rules, safety and security of students, providing crisis in intervention when necessary.
• Informs the Assistant Principal of all relevant situations.
• Maintains emergency plans to be implemented during unforeseen absences.
• Attends trainings and meetings as required.
• Shares/transmits the mission and vision of Arrow Child & Family Ministries to staff and to students and families served.
• Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, Arrow policy, and COA standards.
• Review client files on a quarterly basis to access service plan implementation, progress towards desired outcomes, and future appropriateness of service plan.

This position directly supervises staff.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Arrow Child & Family Ministries policies, State and Federal laws and policy and procedures.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance including coaching and future performance development; manages training needs through learning management system; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Maintain quality improvement goals and address at regularly scheduled staff meetings.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree and a valid state specific Standard Professional Teaching Certificate.  At least three (3) years of teaching experience in special education with students diagnosed with autism preferred.  Experience task analyzing and scaffolding diploma track instruction required. 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the ministry.

Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional variables.

Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.
Must submit to and pass random drug tests during employment.
Must successfully pass all background screens as required by the state.
Must maintain a valid state specific Professional Teaching Certificate.
Must be 21 years of age or older.
