OSP Engineer Job Purpose: Provide quality OSP Fiber designs with accurate access points, calculations, best path analysis, and cost effectiveness.
This individual must have an advanced level of outside plant design knowledge and be capable of designing OSP workprints. Responsible for providing administrative and field support to the outside plant provisioning process and be familiar with various outside plant engineering concepts such as copper and fiber optic cable.
Previous OSP experience with identifying assigned fiber pairs at a strategic fiber access point and designing a path through Aerial and Underground facilities. Experienced with Aerial plant design and identifying the necessary requirements in order to successfully attach fiber to a telephone pole. Familiar with all aspects of telephone poles in regards to Height of Attachment, space requirements, class of pole, guying, anchors, cable re-arrangements, span lengths, pole replacements and OCALC. Experienced designing in the underground environment such as manholes, handholes, and pedestals to pull fiber optic cable through conduit and various access points. Familiar with engineering in the public right of way and on private property for the prevention of conflict with existing facilities.
Must have knowledge of telephone industry standards, interpreting mechanized assignment records, PC applications, OSP drafting systems and able to interact with all network systems. Must be able to utilize facility analysis process to prepare work order drawings and update work order records in an accurate and timely manner.
