Job Description


New Story is currently hiring Resident Advisors for its Columbus, OH campus for the following
**FULL-TIME**  shifts:            
  • Team 1 - Sunday - Tuesday:  6am-6:16pm; Wednesday:  6am-12:15pm
  • Team 2 - Wednesday 12pm-6:15pm, Thursday - Saturday, 6am - 6:15pm
  • Team 4 - Wednesday Midnight - 6;15am, Thursday - Saturday, 6pm - 6:15am

**PART-TIME**  shifts:

  • Saturday-Sunday, 8am-4pm
  • Saturday-Sunday, 4pm-11pm 

***Candidates must be able to pass a complete BCI/FBI background check.****

Resident Advisor role is to guide and assist youths to live and function within the community.  The Resident Advisor is responsible for participating in the development and implementation of individual program plans and coordination for the provision of specialized services.

Some of the basic job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living, personal finances, cooking, personal futures planning, and other household responsibilities.  
  • Provide counseling and guidance to effectively deal with problems and develop positive relationships. 
  • Provide support and guidance to engage in social and leisure activities, access community resources, and to develop/strengthen problem solving skills.  Accompany and monitor consumers on community trips and appointments. 
  • Administer and/or monitor self-administration of all prescribed medications.  Ensure accuracy and compliance, monitor side effects, and complete medication administration records accurately according to protocol. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual service plans. 
  • Utilize safe crisis management techniques to manage situations involving agitated and/or hostile behaviors.   
  • Orient new individuals and assist them with making the adjustment into the house. Gain an understanding of relevant personal, familial, social, vocational/educational and cultural data on all new admissions.
  • Prepare and complete all necessary documentation, including assessments, new admissions, medication records, progress notes, incident reports, and miscellaneous paperwork/reports within required timeframes as requested. 
  • Observe, respond appropriately and report to supervisory staff any significant changes in a an individual’s mental and/or physical health. 
  • Assist with food shopping for residence. 
  • Accurately accounts for house petty cash expenditures. 
  • Communicate relevant clinical information to co-workers, supervisors, other service providers, and psychiatric team, as appropriate, in a timely manner. 
  • Transport consumers in company vehicle as necessary.
  • Report household maintenance needs and repairs to supervisor or designated personnel.  
  • Report vehicle maintenance and repairs and maintain vehicle fuel supply.    
  • Participate in the routine facility cleaning and maintenance and ensure a clean, safe and homelike environment.   
  • Training/Supervision:
    • Attend trainings and conferences as directed by supervisor, in accordance with company policy, and pursuant to applicable regulations.
    • Attend required supervision sessions and staff meetings in accordance with program/company requirements. 
  • Maintain confidentiality per company policy and HIPAA Privacy Rule regulations.  
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Essential job functions are the fundamental job duties of the position.  The position exists to perform the essential function(s) of the job.  In addition, there may a limited number of employees available to perform the duty, the duty may require specialized skill/training, and there may be serious consequences if the duty is not performed.   Other job responsibilities are those duties that do not meet the essential criteria and may be performed less frequently, but are required for the position.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with youth, families, treatment team members, and other personnel involved in treatment.
  • Must have strong communication skills.
  • Must display professional attitude.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education: High School diploma or equivalency

 

Other:   

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license
  • The Resident Advisor may not have the experience and/or training required for other positions within the company, therefore extra care is taken in review of their background and interests.  This position is reserved for those individuals who, despite their lack of formal experience and training, display an exceptional commitment to working with children.
