Senior Employee Relations Specialist


Description:

This position is responsible for providing advice and counsel to management and employees on any issues concerning policies, procedures and/or practices, proactively providing employees at all levels with service programs that support and add value.

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for assisting in the investigation and resolution of employee problems, issues and concerns. 
  • Administration of organizational policies and procedures to provide a work environment that prevents the need for external intervention. 
  • The Employee Relations Specialist will partner with managers at all levels to deliver high quality services or support which enhance productivity and the quality of work life.
  • Develops and implements programs and services for employees at all levels that proactively address issues of employee morale, changing work environments and enhanced performance expectations, partnering with line management to accomplish goals
  • Recognizes the need for modifications to Human Resource policies and procedures, and proposes appropriate changes, including writing and/or re-writing policies and procedures to facilitate approval of senior management.
  • Ensures the organization's compliance with federal, state and local employment law, investigating and preparing for legal review responses to Equal Employment Opportunity Commission/Texas Commission on Human Rights charges, conducting meetings with department managers and outside legal counsel to facilitate decisions and writing position statements for use in the defense of such charges in order to obtain favorable rulings.
  • Represents the employer at external agencies administrative hearings.
  • Mediates employee problems and provides structure for informal negotiations. Coordinates the formal employee problem resolution procedure to facilitate resolutions including, but not limited to, preparing factual unbiased information for presentation to appropriate parties, convening Executive Panels, and presenting factual information on complaints to panel members at hearings. 
  • Partners with managers to evaluate the merits and consequences of corrective action to ensure a highly competent workforce. 
  • Reviews any discharge action prior to implementation to ensure appropriate application of policy and procedure and consistency with precedents. 
  • Ensures quality customer service is provided by the department by consistently assessing customer needs, maintaining excellent lines of communication and developing processes for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain active interface with Recruitment and Employment Services staff to identify and pro-actively respond to issues which affect a mutually satisfying employment relationship for staff and management personnel.
  • Accepts additional assignments within Human Resources as requested by the Administrative Director, Human Resources and actively participates in division projects or events.

Requirements:


  • Law degree required with experience in employment law.
  • 3-5 years of previous employee relations management experience in a complex organization.
  • Healthcare experience is heavily preferred.
