Location:        Glendale, CA

Position:         Accounting Manager

Salary:             $95 to $120K base plus bonus


Three Keys:
    

1. Bachelors degree in Accounting

2. Public accounting experience strongly preferred (they’ll look straight public) – probably a strong senior/light manager

3. CPA preferred


Additional Notes:

·        Position is newly created

·        Reports to the Controller (BIG 4 Sr. Manager)

·        Position will grow to Assistant Controller in a year or so

·        Company is upgrading to Hyperion OR Host Analytics for some of the reporting functions

·        Currently using Lawson as the main ERP and looking to move to JDE

·        Environment is more conservative and people stay for a long time



JOB SUMMARY:  
The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting and maximizing return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.  This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.  

The position supervises staff accountants and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.  This position addresses deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities, including working with domestic and international locations to assist in the preparation of financial information.  

The position will have contact with senior management, domestic management and international management, which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in making accounting decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.  (15%)
  • Participate in period-end closings, including preparation of account reconciliations and analysis and related journal entries.  (15%)
  • Assures that appropriate internal controls exist including asset tracking, proposes and implements changes as necessary.  (10%)
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy through special projects with participation of Corporate Finance management team.  (10%)
  • Advises corporate accounting staff and divisional accounting teams regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions through consultation with appropriate members of the management team.  (10%)
  • Maintains and develops accounting staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.  (10%)
  • Support / lead financial statement audit with external auditors and coordination with locations.  (5%)
  • Responds to inquiries from the Assistant Controller, Controller, Group VP of Tax & Accounting, VP of Finance and Chief Financial Officer, including other members of the Senior Leadership Team and domestic and international management team members.  (15%)
  • Obtains and maintains thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structure.  (5%)
  • Perform other related and assigned duties as necessary.  (5%)



Job Requirements




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  

Education and experience equivalent to:


Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited university or college, CPA required.


Experience:

7 to 10 years of relevant work experience in general accounting functions, including a minimum of 4 years of experience with a Big 4 accounting firm.

  • Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Consolidation of multiple entity financial statements, including foreign entity translation
  • Internal control processes 
  • Balance sheet and cash flow analysis 
  • Business planning and forecasting concepts and techniques 
  • Financial software 
  • Company computer systems 
  • Management/supervisory concepts and techniques
