Job Store Staffing is a Colorado based Staffing Agency who has been contracted to recruit for a Land Mobile Radio Technician in the New York City Area.


We currently have an open position for an experienced Radio Technician in our New York City location. The Radio Tech will be responsible for installing, repairing, aligning and maintaining Motorola radio communication equipment and infrastructure as a contractor for the federal government. This position requires travel to Federal buildings and complexes throughout their assigned region.

Successful candidates will be customer service oriented. This role is highly visible and has a high level of interaction with both customers and high profile federal offices, so successful candidates must be professional in appearance and able to communicate effectively at all levels. Candidates must also be willing and able to travel 10 – 20 percent of the year to perform their duties and responsibilities. The area of responsibility includes New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.


  • Repair and provide technical support for Motorola P25 compliant VHF/UHF equipment, work with both analog and digital systems, mobile and portable subscriber equipment, simulcast, conventional, trunking, and paging systems.
  • Installation, maintenance, and repair of base systems, repeaters, remote controls, multiplexers, antenna systems, and power systems.
  • Support and maintain dispatch console equipment.
  • Assist in equipment inventory, emergency response support and preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Provides technical advice to integrate technological applications to enhance government agency operational requirements.
  • Identifies radio communications requirements, analyzes technical solutions, conducts physical surveys, implements and validates the final solution used to meet communication requirements. Serves as troubleshooter and trainer to federal officers on radio operation.
  • Identifies technical issues with radio communications experienced by users throughout the government agency; designs modifications and enhancements to improve the effectiveness of communications systems; provides briefings on proposed modifications or enhancement.
  • Oversees other contractors in the performance of service contracts.
  • Identifies technical failures on radio subscriber and infrastructure equipment. Works independently to address / fix the failures.
  • Plans, designs, and builds support systems, cables, and components for unique communication demands.
  • Programs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs the following LMR assets: APX 7000, APX 7500, XTS 5000, XTL 5000, XTS 5000 consolette, Quantar repeater, Astro-Tac receiver, Astro-Tac 3000 comparator, GTR 8000 repeater, GPW 8000 receiver, and GCM 8000 comparator.
  • Build radio code plugs for regional operations.
  • Prepare, run, and terminate coax, network, and fiber optic cables.
  • Test, tune and align duplexers, repeaters, portable radios and mobile radios.
  • Set up, configure, and use complex instrumentation to perform communication tests and maintenance.

Job Requirements

Experience and Certification:

  • The ideal candidate will have 5+ years’ experience in the radio communications area, extensive knowledge/understanding of Land/Mobile Radio.  
  • 5+ years of experience with Motorola Astro P-25 radio equipment theory and communications systems.
  • The ability to program, troubleshoot and perform system diagnostics on complex Motorola radio equipment/system to include: XTL5000/XTS5000 radios, QUANTAR receivers
  • Experience with installation and maintenance of Motorola subscriber radio product families, including knowledge of radio template development, flash upgrading, and CPS programming.
  • Understands technology and system functionality and can perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of system issues to ensure system availability.  
  • Intermediate knowledge of RF test tools. i.e... Transmission test sets, signal generators, RF service monitors and spectrum analyzers.
  • Knowledge of battery backup systems, base satiations, repeaters, multi-couplers and duplexers, and possess basic IP networking skills.
  • Candidates must be able to pass DHS background investigation
  • Candidates must possess clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
  • FCC License a plus, but not required
  • MOTOTRBO Connect plus Technical Professional preferred, but not required.
