Job Description

Summary:

 

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support to the Engineers and Scientists within the R&D Department as they develop new and modify existing Heraeus Photovoltaic products.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Perform simple troubleshooting, selecting solutions among proven alternatives.
  • Make routine choices within established procedures, with supervisor consultation.
  • Perform functions such as batching, milling, printing and testing of products.
  • Operate a broad array of laboratory processes and equipment in order to conduct routine tests on products.
  • Compile testing results with limited analysis to assist Engineers and Scientists.
  • Record precise results and findings in laboratory book, database and/or files.
  • Provide basic information to other departments as needed.
  • Follow safety guidelines for handling materials with the use of protective equipment as required.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of working area, laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Handle confidential information with care.
  • Assist Engineers and Scientists with other duties and special projects, as assigned.
  • Adherence to Code of Conduct as applicable to job function:  CoC Guideline No. 1:  Guideline for the Procurement of Products and Services, No. 2:  Guideline for the Prevention of Bribery in Commercial Transactions, No. 3:  Guideline for the Acceptance of Precious Metals and No. 4:  Guideline for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Participation in Criminal Acts.

Qualifications:

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Education and/or Experience:

 

A minimum of an Associate Degree in a scientific discipline, and a minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in a laboratory setting are required. A Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Science with 1-2 years of experience within glass science, materials science or related field is preferred. The equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Self-starter with an attention to detail required. Must have a broad proficiency with equipment operation and testing procedures with a fundamental understanding of the science behind it. Familiarity with metals, glass, oxides, resins, solvents and associated properties is preferred.

 

Language Skills:

 

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Must be willing to ask for clarification or assistance when needed.

 

Mathematical Skills:

 

Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills required. Ability to conduct measurements and conversions of measurements as well as calculate figures and amounts such as percentages and ratios.  Ability to program calculations using software tools.

 

Reasoning Ability:

 

Requires both inductive and deductive reasoning and problem sensitivity.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks. 

 

Physical Demands:

 

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The position requires the ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers to grasp or manipulate small objects.  The incumbent may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment:

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts as well as hazardous materials/chemicals.  The noise level in the laboratory environment is usually quiet to moderate.  This person will be required as needed to wear Specialized Protective or Safety Equipment such as Eye Protection, Hearing Protection, or Breathing Apparatus. 

 

Safety/Security/Environmental:

 

  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Maintain awareness and compliance with all current local, state, and federal Environmental regulations, such as all regulations governing the handling and disposal of Hazardous waste.
  • Comply with all Security policies as outlined by the company standards and local, state and federal laws, as well as Heraeus Safety policies.
