Job Description

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and maintain written nursing service objectives, standards of practice, and nursing policy and procedure manuals.

Maintain accurate job descriptions for all levels of nursing personnel.

Meet the nursing medical needs of all resident including appropriate staffing levels as required by facility policy and federal and state laws.

Input into and participation in facility orientation and ongoing education programs.

Coordinate and direct the total planning for nursing services.

Coordinate and integrate nursing services with other patient care services.

Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of general nursing theory and practice.

Maintain familiarity with facility organizations and functions of all departments.

Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of medical records.

Assume full responsibility of the facility in the absence of the Administrator.
Demonstrate correct safety techniques.

Respects and takes care of facility equipment and not wasteful of supplies.

Contributes to effective communication and pleasant working conditions.

Contributes to and promote positive resident and family relations.

Follow facility policy and procedures.

Continue growth and expand job knowledge.

Demonstrate leadership skills.

Maximize the potential of each employee supervised.

Hires all nursing staff.

Appoints nurse supervisors and nurses in charge of each unit of all shifts.

Develop a schedule for daily rounds and assignments of duties for all nurses and certified nursing
assistants to assure 24 hour coverage.

Ensure that all levels of nursing staff receive annual written evaluations.

Recommend plans, goals, objectives, and budgets to administration, noting needs for personnel
and equipment.

Job Requirements

Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state.

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions.

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care.

Must be knowledgeable in the privacy rule and ensure all staff comply with facility privacy practices policies and procedures.

Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non- professional personnel.

Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.

Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.

Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.

Must be able to communicate effectively to appropriate personnel regarding emergency situations.

Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
