Operations Supervisor

Job Description

The Shift Manager is a front-line supervisor working rotating shifts within a steel manufacturing operation.

 

The Shift Manager will be responsible for leading and directing the activities of 8-12 employees on a rotating shift basis. The Shift Manager will also be responsible for meeting unit objectives involving safety, quality, and productivity.

Duties include:

  • Administration of company policies and procedures
  • Supervision of operations personnel
  • Participate in the manufacturing safety and environmental programs to ensure a safe work environment
  • Adhere to the Quality Policy to promote continuous improvement of our products, processes and services
  • Attain results through effective planning, organizing, controlling, and assignment of priorities
  • Maintain effective and consistent work performance, even under uncertain or unstructured conditions in the face of stress
  • Identify basic problem(s), gather the appropriate information, and analyze in an effective manner
  • Make decisions with a clear business focus on safety, quality, and productivity
  • Perform safety and quality audits/observations within the department to detect existing or potential accident hazards, or quality defects
  • Assist in the development, review, and update of JHSA’s (Job Safety and Health Analysis) to eliminate safety hazards
  • Facilitate weekly safety contacts/safety meetings
  • Job Requirements


    Operations Shift Manager Requirements:

    • Previous supervisory and/or co-op experience in an industrial and/or heavy manufacturing environment
    • Must be willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
    • Basic computer skills
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills

     

    Preferred Requirements:

     

    • Four year degree
    • Exposure to Quality (QS 9000), Environmental (ISO14001) and Safety (OSHA supervisory training, experience with JSHA’s, lockout/tryout)
