Job Description


The Classroom Aide assists the Teacher and Associate Teacher in providing services specified in the IEPs of assigned students; provides leadership and guidance to the students in a supportive atmosphere.


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Under the direction of the Teacher, provides individualized instruction and support to an assigned student or small group of students.
  • Maintains a safe learning environment for students within the scope of The Arrow Center for Education administrative policies and procedures.  Supervises and manages student behavior in the classroom, school and school-sponsored functions.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to promote progress and success with an assigned student or small group of students.
  • Provides a learning environment that is individualized for students and works towards their personal level of independence.
  • Assists the Teacher with completion of all necessary paperwork to accurately record student progress.  This is to include daily attendance records, progress reports and behavioral logs.
  • Participates as an active member of the treatment team.  Communicates all appropriate information within and without the classroom orally and in writing.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of a positive school culture.
  • Maintains proper rules, safety and security of students, providing crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Informs the Teacher and School Support Specialist of all relevant situations.
  • Attends trainings and meetings as required.
  • Shares/transmits the mission and vision of Arrow Child & Family Ministries to staff and to students and families served.
  • Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, Arrow policy, and COA standards.

  • Review client files on a quarterly basis to access service plan implementation, progress towards desired outcomes, and future appropriateness of service plan.


Supervisory responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Job Requirements

Education, Licensure and/or Experience

High School diploma or GED. At least one (1) year of teaching experience in special education. Experience working in a school setting, with students diagnosed with autism preferred.  


Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the ministry.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional variables.


Other Requirements

Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.

Must submit to and pass random drug tests during employment.

Must successfully pass all background screens as required by the state.

Must be 21 years of age or older.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.  The employee will be required to have repetitive use of their feet and hands.   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may have occasional contact with cleaning solvents, aromatics and nuisance dusts.


Other physical requirements specific to this job:

Frequently requires to stand up to 6 hours a day        

Occasionally required to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.

Occasionally required to push/pull up to 50 lbs.

Occasionally required to climb stairs

Frequently required to bend and/or stoop

Occasionally required to kneel and/or crouch
